The 2022 Bulgarian Basketball Cup is the 68th edition of the annual cup tournament in Bulgaria. It is managed by the Bulgarian Basketball Federation and will be held in Botevgrad, Arena Botevgrad. [1] The competition starts at 24 March 2022, with the quarterfinals and ended with the Final on March 28, 2021.

The 2021 Bulgarian Basketball Cup was drawn on 8 March 2022 at approximately 12:00. The seeded teams were paired in the quarterfinals with the non-seeded teams. There were not any restrictions for the draw of the semifinals. [3]

The competition started at 6th of February 2020, with the quarterfinals and ended with the Final on February 9, 2020.

The COVID-19 pandemic in Bulgaria is part of the worldwide pandemic of coronavirus disease 2019 caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2. The virus was confirmed to have spread to Bulgaria when the country's first cases, a 27-year-old man from Pleven and a 75-year-old woman from Gabrovo, were confirmed on 8 March 2020. Neither of the two had traveled to areas with known coronavirus cases which is maybe because the PCR test that was used is deffective. The man tested positive for the virus after being hospitalized for a respiratory infection, and authorities announced plans to test several people who were in contact with the two individuals. Two other samples in Pleven and Gabrovo were positive on 8 March. Patient zero remains unknown.

BC Shumen

BC Shumen is a Bulgarian professional basketball club based in Shumen. The club was founded in 1950 and had been playing in lower divisions of Bulgarian basketball system. From 1986 to 2002, the team played in the first basketball league of Bulgaria (NBL). For four consecutive years BC Shumen were second in the regular season, third place three times and also one fourth place in the Bulgarian Basketball Cup. For three seasons BC Shumen took part in the international competition called FIBA Korać Cup.

They reached the final for 3rd consecutive time, but lost to Levski Sofia, who won the cup for a record 26th time and also qualified for the second qualifying round of the 2022–23 UEFA Europa Conference League.

The 2021–22 National Basketball League (Bulgaria) season is the 81st season of the Bulgarian NBL.
