Jang Su-jeong is a South Korean professional tennis player. On 11 July 2022, she achieved a career-high singles ranking of world No. 114. On 22 May 2023, she peaked at No. 82 in the WTA doubles rankings.
Olga Danilović is a Serbian professional tennis player. On 28 October 2024, she reached her best singles ranking of world No. 52. On 24 April 2023, she peaked at No. 104 in the WTA doubles rankings. In July 2018, Danilović won her first WTA Tour singles title in Moscow, beating Anastasia Potapova in the final. She also won two WTA doubles titles, first in Tashkent and the second one in Lausanne. On the WTA Challenger Tour, she has won one doubles title. She has also won seven singles titles and one doubles title on the ITF Women's Circuit. Playing for Serbia, Danilović has a win–loss record of 12–8 in Billie Jean King Cup competition.

She has a career-high singles ranking of No. 8 by the WTA, achieved on September 9, 2024, and a best doubles ranking of world No. 93, achieved in August 2024. She played college tennis at Virginia and won the NCAA Singles Championship in 2021, later becoming the first women's singles NCAA champion to reach the US Open semifinals. She won her first WTA Tour title at the 2024 Hobart International.

Emma Raducanu defeated Leylah Fernandez in the final, 6–4, 6–3 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2021 US Open. It was her first major title, and she became the first qualifier to win a major. Additionally, she became the first British woman to win a singles major since Virginia Wade at the 1977 Wimbledon Championships, and the second player to win the US Open on her debut after Bianca Andreescu in 2019. Aged 18, Raducanu became the youngest major champion since Maria Sharapova at the 2004 Wimbledon Championships and with a ranking of world No. 150, the lowest-ranked player to win a major since Kim Clijsters at the 2009 US Open, and the youngest player to win the title since Serena Williams at the 1999 US Open. She also won the title without losing a set during the tournament, including during her three qualification matches, and was not taken to a tiebreaker in any set. This was her first WTA Tour singles title, making her the fourth woman in the Open Era to win a major as her first singles title.

Petra Martić defeated Olga Danilović in the final, 6–4, 6–2 to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Ladies Open Lausanne. It was Martić's first WTA title since Istanbul in 2019.
This is the first edition of the event as a WTA 125 tournament. It was part of the ITF Women's Circuit from 2016 to 2018. Viktória Kužmová was the champion when the event was last held in 2018, but lost in the first round of qualifying to Amarissa Kiara Tóth.
Madison Brengle was the defending champion and successfully defended her title, defeating Panna Udvardy in the final, 6–3, 6–1.

Elena Rybakina defeated Aryna Sabalenka in the final, 7–6(13–11), 6–4 to win the women's singles tennis title at the 2023 Indian Wells Open. It was her first WTA 1000 title, and the final was a rematch of the Australian Open final, won by Sabalenka. Rybakina became the first Kazakhstani player to win a WTA 1000 singles title.
