Nicolas Mahut and Vasek Pospisil were the defending champions, but Pospisil chose not to participate this year. Mahut played alongside Pierre-Hugues Herbert, but lost in the semifinals to Ivan Dodig and Marcel Granollers.

Luca Nardi is an Italian professional tennis player. He has a career-high ATP singles ranking of world No. 70 achieved on 20 May 2024. He also has a career-high ATP doubles ranking of world No. 299, attained on 10 April 2023.

Alexander Zverev defeated Matteo Berrettini in the final, 6–7(8–10), 6–4, 6–3 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2021 Madrid Open. It was Zverev's fourth Masters 1000 title, his first since Madrid 2018, and his 15th career ATP Tour singles title overall. Berrettini was in contention to become the second Italian to be a Masters 1000 champion.

Ivan Dodig and Édouard Roger-Vasselin were the defending champions from when the tournament was last held in 2019, but Dodig decided not to participate this year. Roger-Vasselin played alongside Henri Kontinen but lost in the quarterfinals to Matthew Ebden and John-Patrick Smith.

Andrey Rublev defeated Félix Auger-Aliassime in the final, 7–5, 7–6(7–4) to win the singles title at the 2022 Open 13 Provence.

Carlos Alcaraz defeated the defending champion Alexander Zverev in the final, 6–3, 6–1 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2022 Madrid Open. Alcaraz also became the first man to defeat Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic in the same clay court tournament, which he did in the quarterfinals and semifinals, respectively.

Lorenzo Musetti defeated Carlos Alcaraz in the final, 6–4, 6–7(6–8), 6–4 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2022 Hamburg European Open. It was his first ATP Tour title, and he saved two match points en route, in his first round match against Dušan Lajović.

Lorenzo Sonego defeated Alexander Bublik in the final, 7–6(7–3), 6–2 to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Moselle Open.

Lorenzo Musetti defeated Matteo Berrettini in the final, 7–6(7–5), 6–2 to win the singles tennis title at the 2022 Napoli Cup. It was his second career ATP Tour singles title.

Daniil Medvedev defeated Holger Rune in the final, 7–5, 7–5 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2023 Italian Open. It was his fifth title of 2023, sixth career Masters 1000 title, and first ATP Tour title on clay. Before 2023, Medvedev had never won a match at the Italian Open in three previous appearances.

Andrey Rublev defeated Casper Ruud in the final, 7–6(7–3), 6–0, to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2023 Swedish Open.

Alexei Popyrin defeated Stan Wawrinka in the final, 6–7(5–7), 6–3, 6–4 to win the singles tennis title at the 2023 Croatia Open Umag. It was his second ATP Tour singles title.

Giulio Zeppieri was the defending champion but chose not to defend his title.

Carlos Alcaraz defeated Alexander Zverev in the final, 6–3, 2–6, 5–7, 6–1, 6–2 to win the men's singles tennis title at the 2024 French Open. It was his first French Open title and third major title overall. At 21 years old, Alcaraz became the youngest man to win major titles on three different surfaces, having won the 2022 US Open on hardcourts and 2023 Wimbledon Championships on grass. Zverev became the first German man to contest the final since Michael Stich in 1996.

Jack Draper defeated Matteo Berrettini in the final, 3–6, 7–6(7–5), 6–4 to win the singles tennis title at the 2024 Stuttgart Open. It was his first career ATP Tour title and Draper became the first British player to win the title since the tournament's establishment in 1949.

Tommy Paul defeated Lorenzo Musetti in the final, 6–1, 7–6(10–8) to win the singles tennis title at the 2024 Queen's Club Championships. It was his third career ATP Tour title, and first on grass. Paul became the first American to win the tournament since Sam Querrey in 2010.
