The 2024 World Aquatics Women's U18 Water Polo Championships was the 6th edition of the women's U18 Water Polo Championship. The tournament was played in Chengdu, China, from 15 to 22 September 2024. [1] [2] [3] The United States were the defending champions. [4] Spain became the world champions for the second time.
The 16 teams were divided into two divisions. The top eight teams made Division 1 and the other eight teams Division 2. Both divisions were split into two groups of four teams. The top two teams from each group of Division 1 advanced directly to the quarterfinals, while the other two teams from each group played against one of the top two sides from each group in Division 2 in the crossover round. Starting with quarterfinals onward, the regular knock-out system was used.

Brenda Villa is an American accomplished water polo player. She is the most decorated athlete in the world of women’s water polo. Villa was named Female Water Polo Player of the Decade for 2000-2009 by the FINA Aquatics World Magazine. She is one of four female players who competed in water polo at four Olympics; and one of two female athletes who won four Olympic medals in water polo. She is a leading goalscorer in Olympic water polo history, with 31 goals. In 2018, she was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame and the USA Water Polo Hall of Fame.
Water polo at the World Aquatics Championships is an international water polo tournament held every two years as part of the World Aquatics Championships. The reigning champions are Croatia in men's and the United States in women's competition.
The women's water polo tournament at the 2004 Summer Olympics was contested between August 16 and August 26 at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in the Athens Olympic Sports Complex. Eight teams qualified for the Games, with Italy defeating the host nation Greece for the gold medal. The United States won the bronze medal.
The women's water polo tournament at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing was held from 11 August to 21 August at the Ying Tung Natatorium.
The 2010 FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup was the 15th edition of the event, organised by the world's governing body in aquatics, the International Swimming Federation (FINA). The event took place in Christchurch, New Zealand from 17 to 22 August 2010.
The 2012 FINA Women's Water Polo World League is played between February and June 2012 and open to all women's water polo national teams. After playing in groups within the same continent, eight teams qualify to play in a final tournament, called the Super Final in Changshu, China from 29 May - 3 June 2012. The two teams that reach the final of the Super Final will be the first teams to quality for the water polo tournament of the 2013 World Aquatics Championships in Barcelona.
The 2017 FINA Women's Water Polo World League is the 14th edition of the annual women's international water polo tournament. It was played between November 2016 and June 2017 and open to all women's water polo national teams. After participating in a preliminary round, eight teams qualify to play in a final tournament, called the Super Final from 06 to 11 June 2017.
The 2023 Men's FINA Water Polo World Cup was the 17th edition of the tournament. It ran from 8 March to 2 July 2023. The Super final took place between 30 June and 2 July 2023 in Los Angeles, United States.
The 2023 FINA Women's Water Polo World Cup was the 18th edition of the tournament. It ran from 11 April to 25 June 2023. The Super final took place between 23 and 25 June 2023 in Long Beach, United States.
The 2022 FIBA U18 Women's Asian Championship was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Asia at the 2023 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup. The tournament, which was also the 25th edition of the biennial competition, was held in Bangalore, India from 5 to 11 September. The top four teams qualified and will represent FIBA Asia in the 2023 FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Spain.
The 2024 Men's European Water Polo Championship was the 36th edition of the tournament, held in Dubrovnik and Zagreb, Croatia from 4 to 16 January 2024. Originally, Israel had been selected as host and the competition was slated to be held in Netanya, from 3 to 16 January 2024. Due to security concerns after the breakout of the 2023 Israel–Hamas war, LEN announced the Championship would be hosted elsewhere.
The 2024 Women's European Water Polo Championship was the 20th edition of the tournament. It was held in Eindhoven, Netherlands from 5 to 13 January 2024. It was scheduled to be held in Netanya, Israel, But the competition was taken away from Israel for security reasons after the 2023 Israel–Hamas war commenced. This edition was the first one to be played by 16 teams.
The 2023 Pan American Water Polo Championships was the 10th edition of the continental championship, organised by the Swimming Union of the Americas. The competition was the 10th for men and 8th for women. This is the first tournament since being renamed as the 2023 Pan American Water Polo Championships. The event was held in Bauru, Brazil.
The 2024 Men's European U-19 Water Polo Championship was the 28th edition of the Men's European U-19 Water Polo Championship. The tournament was played in Burgas, Bulgaria from 1 to 7 September 2024. Serbia were the defending champions, but were eliminated in quarterfinals. Croatia won the tournament for the first time.
