A total of 31 (out of 54) CAF member national teams entered the qualifying rounds. The draw was held on 10 January 2026 in Rabat, Morocco, at 13h00 local time (12h00 GMT / 14h00 Cairo).[1]
The competition format is as follows:
Three knockout rounds played on a home-and-away basis.
The four winners of the final round qualify for the World Cup, joining host Morocco.

Qualification ties are played on a home-and-away two-legged basis. If the aggregate score is tied after the second leg, the away goals rule is applied, and if still tied, the penalty shoot-out (no extra time) is used to determine the winner.[1]
