The 29th Annual South African Music Awards is the 29th ceremony of the South African Music Awards. The ceremony was aired live on SABC 1 on November 18, 2023 hosted by DJ Sabby and Nomalanga Shozi at SunBet Arena. [1]

Contents

Nominees were announced on October 3, 2023, live on YouTube. The late AKA leads the nominees with 7 nominations for his posthumous album  Mass Country , ahead of K.O with six nominations. [2] [3]

Background

29th South African Music Awards delayed due to financial difficulties, unlike other years nominations are announced on the first quarter. [4]

Nominees were announced on October 3, 2023, live on YouTube at Soweto State Theater.

The ceremony was planned to be held at Durban ICC Arena on November 18 and broadcast live on SABC 1. [5] Later was announced that the venue is changed to Sun Bet Arena.

Ntokozo Mdluli, known professionally as K.O, is a South African rapper. He began his career as a member of Teargas, a hip hop group which released its debut album, K'shubile K'bovu, in 2006, followed by Wafa Wafa (2008), Dark or Blue (2009) and Num8er Num8er (2012).

Somizi Buyani Mhlongo is a South African television presenter, choreographer, media personality and socialite. In 1992, he appeared on the musical and political film, Sarafina! which gained him prominence. The 26th Annual South African Music Awards were held on 3–7 August 2020. Sandile Fortune Msimango, popularly known by his stage name Young Stunna is a South African Amapiano singer. He is known for his hit singles "Bopha" and "Adiwele". He has also extensively worked with record producers DJ Maphorisa and Kabza De Small.

Yanga Ntshakaza, professionally known as Yanga Chief is a South African rapper, record producer and singer-songwriter. Born in Mthatha and raised in Queenstown, Yanga studied film studies at University of Johannesburg.

Tshiamiso Sekowe is a South African DJ and record producer professionally known under the alias of Myztro. Born and bred in Soshanguve, he is the biological brother of DJ Maphorisa.
