The 34th Annual Stellar Awards was held on March 29, 2019, at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, [1] and later aired for the first time on American digital cable and satellite television network BET on April 19. [2] Musician Kirk Franklin hosted the ceremony.

Contents

The ceremony recognized the best gospel music recordings, compositions, and artists of the eligibility year, which ran in 2018. [3]

Delores Washington Green of The Caravans was given the Legend Award. [2] James Robinson Jr., Jackie Patillo and Phil Thornton were inducted into the Stellar Honors Hall of Fame. [2] On behalf of Aretha Franklin, the members of Franklin's family were presented with the inaugural Aretha Franklin Icon Award. [2]

Jonathan McReynolds, who received the most nominations, also received the most wins of the night by winning in each of his nominated categories. [2]

The show was held at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville, Tennessee, and was hosted by Rebecca St. James and Kirk Franklin. This was the last year in which the awards were called the "GMA Music Awards", since they will change their names to "GMA Dove Awards".

The McDonald's Gospelfest is an annual gospel music festival, talent competition, and fundraiser in Newark, New Jersey. The event, inaugurated in 1983, and sponsored by McDonald's, takes place in spring and has been held at the Prudential Center since 2008. The closing night contest and ceremony is produced, directed, and hosted by A. Curtis Farrow. The event, which can take several hours, has been recorded and broadcast variously on WABC-TV and WWOR-TV. Involving more than a thousand performers, it has been described as the "largest collection of gospel talent ever assembled" and the "most spectacular gospel celebration in the nation".
