The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is India's highest award in the field of cinema. It is presented annually at the National Film Awards ceremony by the Directorate of Film Festivals, an organisation set up by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. The recipient is honoured for their "great and outstanding contribution to the growth and development of Indian cinema" and is selected by a committee consisting of eminent personalities from the Indian film industry. Kannada cinema, also known as Sandalwood, or Chandanavana, is the segment of Indian cinema dedicated to the production of motion pictures in the Kannada language widely spoken in the state of Karnataka. Kannada cinema is based in Gandhi Nagar, Bangalore. The 1934 film Sati Sulochana directed by Y. V. Rao was the first talkie film released in the Kannada language. It was also the first film starring Subbaiah Naidu and Tripuramba, and the first screened in the erstwhile Mysore Kingdom. Kishan Shrikanth, professionally known as Kishan SS or Master Kishan, is a film actor and director from Bangalore, Karnataka. As of January 2006, having acted in 24 films and in many popular Indian soap opera, he directed a feature film, C/o Footpath, about an orphaned boy who wants to go to school. The film is adapted from a short story written by himself, and the cast includes prominent Indian actors Jackie Shroff, Saurabh Shukla, B. Jayashree, Sudeep and Tara. Kishan himself plays the lead. The film has been dubbed into five major Indian languages and it has also been released in English. It was first shot in Kannada and the original version was released on 26 November 2006.

Abdalla played Ziad Jarrah, the pilot and leader of the four hijackers on board the flight. Lust is a 2010 Egyptian drama film directed by Khaled El Hagar. The film was selected as the Egyptian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 84th Academy Awards, but it did not make the final shortlist. Lust was also reviewed at the 34th Cairo Film Festival. In the Arab world of film production, it is the oldest annual cinema event. According to Daily News, “Lust” is an interesting and provocative contribution to this year’s festival." The Executive Producer Producer of Lust was Amr El Safie while Dima Al-Joundi, and Mohamed Yassine produced it.

Donbass is a 2018 internationally co-produced black comedy war film directed by Sergei Loznitsa. It was selected as the opening film in the Un Certain Regard section at the 2018 Cannes Film Festival. At Cannes, Loznitsa won the Un Certain Regard award for Best Director, as well as the Silver Pyramid at the 40th Cairo International Film Festival. It was selected as the Ukrainian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards, but it was not nominated. It was filmed in Kryvyi Rih, 300 km west of separatist-occupied Donetsk. At the 49th International Film Festival of India it received the Main Prize - Golden Peacock for Best Feature Film.
