3M Teaching Fellow

The 3M National Teaching Fellowship is Canada's "most prestigious award" recognizing excellence in educational leadership and teaching at the university and college level. [1] It is conferred by the Society for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning in Higher Education (STLHE). In 1986, STLHE and 3M Canada partnered to recognize exceptional contributions to teaching and learning in Canadian post-secondary education. Up to ten Fellowships are selected annually. Contents

All recipients of the 3M National Teaching Fellowship automatically become members of the STHLE Council of Fellows, together with 3M National Student Fellows, and College Sector Educator Award recipients. [3]

A fellow is a concept whose exact meaning depends on context. In learned or professional societies, it refers to a privileged member who is specially elected in recognition of their work and achievements. Within the context of higher educational institutions, a fellow can be a member of a highly ranked group of teachers at a particular college or university or a member of the governing body in some universities; it can also be a specially selected postgraduate student who has been appointed to a post granting a stipend, research facilities and other privileges for a fixed period in order to undertake some advanced study or research, often in return for teaching services. In the context of research and development-intensive large companies or corporations, the title "fellow" is sometimes given to a small number of senior scientists and engineers. In the context of medical education in North America, a fellow is a physician who is undergoing a supervised, sub-specialty medical training (fellowship) after having completed a specialty training program (residency).

It advocates evidence-based teaching methods and awards fellowships as professional recognition for university teachers. Founded in 2003, the Higher Education Academy was responsible for the UK Professional Standards Framework for higher education practitioners and merged to form Advance HE on 21 March 2018.

The National Teaching Fellowship Scheme (NTFS) is an award for excellence in teaching in higher education for teaching fellows in England, Scotland, Northern Ireland, and Wales. The scheme was first administered by the Higher Education Academy, which subsequently became Advance HE in 2018. The scheme was started in 2000 and there are now more than 900 national teaching fellows (NTFs) across the UK. In 2016 an additional team award, the Collaborative Award for Teaching Excellence (CATE) was launched. This award recognises teams for their collaborative work and excellent practice in teaching and learning.

Kenneth R. Bartlett is a Renaissance historian, author, and professor at the University of Toronto, where he earned his Ph.D. degree in 1978. He was editor of Renaissance and Reformation/Renaissance et Réforme from 1985 until 1990 and President of the Canadian Society for Renaissance Studies from 1982 until 1984. Prof. Bartlett was the Founding Director of the University of Toronto Art Centre, and sat on the Board of the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art from 2001-2015. He was the Director of Faculty Programs in Arts and Science for 13 years, and in 2002 he was named the first Director of the Office of Teaching Advancement for the University of Toronto, a position he enjoyed until 2009.

The Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at University of Alberta is located in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada. Established in 1913, it is one of the oldest medical schools in Western Canada and is composed of 21 departments, two stand-alone divisions, 9 research groups, and 24 research centers and institutes. He successfully completed his term as the Vice Provost and Associate Vice-President Research (International) of the University of Calgary, Canada from Sept. 1, 2020 until March 29, 2024. He was the Vice-Provost International since 2013 until 2020. In 2022, Janaka was a winner of the Top25 Canadian Immigrant Awards selected by Canadian Immigrant Magazine. Maja Krzic is a soil scientist and an associate professor in the Department of Forest & Conservation Sciences in the Faculty of Forestry with a joint appointment in the Applied Biology and Soil Sciences programs in the Faculty of Land and Food Systems at the University of British Columbia. She is a founder of the Virtual Soil Science Learning Resources Group, a collaborative teaching effort among scientists, students, and multimedia experts from seven universities and three research institutions in Canada that create open access soil science educational resources. She is also the president of the Canadian Society of Soil Science and was named a 3M National Teaching Fellow in 2016.

Lorraine Janzen Kooistra is a Canadian professor of English and a member of the Yeates School of Graduate Studies at Toronto Metropolitan University. She is the founding co-director of TMU's Centre for Digital Humanities. She was elected a fellow of the Royal Society of Canada in 2018.

Jacqueline Murray is a Canadian medieval historian and professor emeritus of history at the University of Guelph. Her research focuses on sexuality and gender in medieval Europe, with a specific focus on masculinity and male sexuality. She has also studied marriage and the family in the Middles Ages.

Jonathan Sherbino is a Canadian emergency & trauma physician, clinician educator, academic, and author. He is a professor in the Department of Medicine and serves as an assistant dean for Health Professions Education Research at McMaster University. He is an affiliate researcher at Karolinska Institutet. He co-hosts The Papers podcast.

Veselin Jungić is a Canadian mathematician who is a teaching professor of mathematics at the Simon Fraser University, in its Department of Mathematics. His research interests are in Ramsey theory and mathematical education.
