The Third Military Region is a military region of Armed Forces of Yemen. Its headquarters locates in Marib city, the capital of Marib Governorate. [1]
The third region was established in 2013 as part of the military restructuring by former president Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi who issued a republication decree to divide the military field into seven regions, including the Third Military Region. [2] The region is headquartered in Marib city and supervises the military units in Marib and Shabwah Governorates. [3]
The region consists of over 10 military units and brigades, including; 14th Armored Brigade, 107th Infantry Brigade, 312 Armored Brigade, 21 Infantry Brigade, 26th Infantry Brigade. and 13th Infantry Brigade.

Major General Salem Ali Qatan was a Yemeni military officer and member of the Al-Awaliq tribe. He was born in Yashbem in As Said District, Shabwah Governorate. He was married, and joined the military in 1970. As the chief military commander in south Yemen, Qatan had led a month-long offensive against terrorist organization al-Qaeda, leading to its withdrawal from several towns and villages in the Abyan and Shabwa provinces of Yemen which it had controlled since 2011. Ali Qatan was appointed in March 2012, succeeding Major General Mahdi Maqouleh just days after the newly elected President of Yemen, Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi took office and pledged to destroy al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula once and for all.
Ahmed Obaid Bin Dagher is a Yemeni politician currently serving as chairman of Yemen's Shura Council since 17 January 2021. He was Prime Minister of Yemen from 4 April 2016 to 15 October 2018 as part of the internationally recognized Aden. On 22 September 2016, Dagher returned to Yemen by flying from Riyadh along with seven ministers to Aden.
Lieutenant General Mohammed Ali Al-Maqdashi is a Yemeni military officer. On 28 July 2022 he appointed by Rashad Al-Alaimi as an advisor to the Yemen's Presidential Leadership Council for military and security affairs. He was previously Yemeni Minister of Defense, and a military advisor to former President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi. He also served as chief of staff of the Yemeni Armed Forces.
The Al Jawf offensive was a Houthi offensive that began in February 2020 with clashes in the Al Jawf Governorate during the Second Yemeni Civil War. Houthi forces were able to decisively capture the town of Al Hazm on 1 March 2020 from the Hadi government. On 27 April, the first phase of the offensive ended with the Houthis capturing 3,500 square kilometers of territory in Al Jawf Governorate. After reinforcing, the Houthis launched the second phase of their offensive on 27 May, making further advances toward the city of Marib and capturing the Maas military base on 20 November, 2020. The Houthis halted the offensive on 5 February 2021, in order to account for changes in the Saudi-led coalition and Southern Transitional Council. After reinforcing once more, the Houthis launched a new offensive towards Marib city on 7 February.
The Battle of Marib is an ongoing battle that began in February 2021 following the advance of the Houthis towards the city of Marib, the capital of Marib Governorate in Yemen controlled by the Cabinet of Yemen.
Sagheer Hamoud ِAhmed Aziz, sometimes spelled "Sagher Hamood,or Saghir", commonly known as Sagheer bin Aziz, is a Yemeni politician, MP, and military officer. He is the current chief of the Yemeni Armed Forces Staff.
