The 44th Wisconsin Infantry Regiment was a volunteer infantry regiment that served in the Union Army during the American Civil War.
The 44th Wisconsin was organized at Madison, Wisconsin, and mustered into Federal service by companies between October and November 1864. The first five companies of the regiment were rushed to Nashville as a battalion under the command of Lieutenant Colonel Oliver C. Bissell, in November 1864, to assist in the defense of the Battle of Nashville. The remaining companies arrived in February 1865. [1]

Beginning in November, the unit fought in the Franklin–Nashville Campaign. At the Franklin on 30 November 1864, the regiment suddenly found itself in the center of an extremely bloody fight. In March and April 1865, the regiment was part of the expedition that seized Mobile, Alabama. The soldiers were mustered out of Federal service in mid-August 1865.
