Community radio

Community radio is a radio service offering a third model of radio broadcasting in addition to commercial and public broadcasting. Community stations serve geographic communities and communities of interest. They broadcast content that is popular and relevant to a local, specific audience but is often overlooked by commercial or mass-media broadcasters. Community radio stations are operated, owned, and influenced by the communities they serve. They are generally nonprofit and provide a mechanism for enabling individuals, groups, and communities to tell their own stories, to share experiences and, in a media-rich world, to become creators and contributors of media.

Gladstone is a city in the Gladstone Region, Queensland, Australia. It is approximately 550 km (340 mi) by road north of Brisbane and 100 km (62 mi) south-east of Rockhampton. Situated between the Calliope and Boyne Rivers, Gladstone is home to Queensland's largest multi-commodity shipping port.

The station is currently broadcasting as Fresh FM and transmits to the Gladstone Region on 91.9 FM. [2]

Prior to June 2013, the station was known as Rhema FM due to a former affiliation with the United Christian Broadcasters network of Rhema FM stations, but its name was changed to Fresh FM when it underwent a relaunch. [3]

Rhema FM

Rhema FM is the name used for a number of Christian radio stations established with the help of, and assisted for many years by United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) in Australia. Each is independent, being run and programmed locally with many having moved away from the Rhema name. UCB has also established the Vision Radio Network across Australia, which is entirely networked from UCB's Brisbane studios.

United Christian Broadcasters (UCB) is an international Christian broadcasting and media group, founded by Rhema Media. Through affiliates in twenty five countries, it operates radio and television stations and publishes and broadcasts Bob Gass's free daily devotionals The Word for You Today and word4u2day.

After struggling to find a permanent location for the radio station, [4] the station purchased land from the Uniting Church and constructed studio facilities on the site which the radio station moved into on 25 May 2013. [5]

On 7 November 2016, the station announced that after reaching an agreement with Seven Queensland, it would commence simulcasting the Central Queensland edition of Seven News at 6pm each weeknight from 11 November 2016. [6]

Some Sea FM stations were later sold to meet media ownership requirements. Prime Television Limited purchased Sea FM Townsville in Queensland and Grant Broadcasters purchased Sea FM stations in Devonport and Burnie in Tasmania. All Sea FM stations currently owned by Southern Cross Austereo except Cairns, Mackay and Rockhampton / Gladstone, are part of the Hit Network after Southern Cross Media merged with Austereo.

99.7 Rhema FM is the local Christian radio station for the Newcastle and Hunter Region in New South Wales, Australia. It is funded by a combination of members fees and sponsorship advertising and has some volunteer staffing. They are a registered not-for-profit organisation with charitable status.

Hope 103.2 is a Easy Listening station in Sydney, Australia, transmitting on the FM dial at 103.2 MHz. Founded as 2CBA by the Rev. It also publishes Bob Gass's quarterly devotional publication The Word For Today, and a youth version called The Word For You Today. Rhema Media is based in Newton, Auckland and is the founding organisation of United Christian Broadcasters (UCB).

91.7 ABC Gold Coast is an ABC Local Radio station. Based in the suburb of Mermaid Beach, the station broadcasts to the Gold Coast and surrounding hinterland in Queensland, covering as far south as Byron Bay in New South Wales.
