The 58th Academy of Country Music Awards was held on May 11, 2023, in Frisco, Texas at the Ford Center at The Star. [1] The ceremony was hosted by country legends Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks. [2]

Background

On July 19, 2022, Prime Video and the ACM announced they would be moving the awards show to Frisco, Texas, at the Ford Center at The Star, which is a practice facility for the Dallas Cowboys. This marks the second time they have broadcast from the state since the 50th ceremony in 2015. [3]

Category updates

On December 1, 2022, the academy announced it would be changing some of the awards categories. The Entertainer of the Year award would increase from five nominees to seven nominees. The Songwriter of the Year award would be separated into: Songwriter, described as an individual known predominantly as a songwriter and does not serve as the primary artist; and Artist —Songwriter, described as an individual known both as an artist and a songwriter who was the main recording artist on at least one song that charted in the top 20 on Billboard's Hot Country Songs or Mediabase Country charts during the eligibility period. Lastly, Video of the Year would be renamed as Visual Media of the Year, as to include other forms of media. [4]

Hosts

On March 28, 2023, the ACM announced that country legends Dolly Parton and Garth Brooks would be hosting the ceremony. This ceremony marks Parton's second consecutive year, and third time hosting. This will be Brooks' first time hosting the awards. [5]

Performers

The first wave of performers were announced on April 30, 2023. [7] On May 8, Ed Sheeran was announced as a performer. The full line-up was revealed on May 9, 2023. [8] Morgan Wallen was originally set to perform on the show but had to cancel after he was placed on vocal rest by doctors. [9]

The 53rd Annual Country Music Association Awards were held on November 13, 2019 at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tennessee. The ceremony recognizes some of the best country music released during the eligibility period. Carrie Underwood hosted the event with special guest hosts Reba McEntire and Dolly Parton, celebrating legendary women in country music. "In addition to awarding the year's best and brightest in the genre, the 53rd Annual CMA Awards will celebrate the legacy of women within country music, and we couldn't think of a more dynamic group of women to host the show." said CMA CEO Sarah Trahern. For the first time in CMA history, women were nominated in every category, except Male Vocalist of the Year. However, when all was said and done, the sole female Entertainer of the Year nominee, Carrie Underwood, lost the top honor to Garth Brooks; upsetting fans and leading to Garth Brooks stepping down from the category the following year.

The 2020 Billboard Music Awards were held on Wednesday October 14, 2020, at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony was broadcast live from NBC. Hosted by Kelly Clarkson for the third year in a row, the ceremony was sponsored by TikTok and Xfinity. The ceremony was originally scheduled for April 29, 2020, but was later postponed first indefinitely and then to October due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Nominees were announced on September 22, 2020. Voting opened on TikTok on October 1 and closed on October 13. Presenters were announced October 13.

The 56th Academy of Country Music Awards were held on April 18, 2021 in Nashville, Tennessee and broadcast from various locations around Nashville. The evening was co-hosted by Keith Urban and Mickey Guyton. Maren Morris and Chris Stapleton received the most nominations, including one for Morris as a member of the Highwomen. Morris led the night with three wins, including one trophy for Female Artist of the Year and two trophies for Song of the Year, "The Bones," as both the artist and as the songwriter. The ceremony involved no ticketed audience due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, but featured a limited number of health care workers.

Lainey Denay Wilson is an American country music singer-songwriter. Wilson performed from an early age, before going to Nashville, Tennessee, to pursue a career as a country performer. In 2014, she released her first album, followed by a second on the Lone Chief label in 2016. Wilson secured a publishing deal and later released an extended play (EP) in 2019, which included the song "Things a Man Oughta Know". In 2020, it was issued as a single through the BBR Music Group and eventually reached number one on the American country songs chart.

The 2021 Billboard Music Awards were held on May 23, 2021, at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony was broadcast live from NBC, and was hosted by Nick Jonas. Musical performers were announced during a series of social media posts.
