The 5th Nigerian Academy of Science Media Awards ceremony honoring Broadcast Journalist and Newspaper Columnist of 2014 was held at the Conference Room C of the Protea Hotel, Isaac John Street, GRA Ikeja, Lagos State, Nigeria on May 7, 2015. [1] [2]

Winners and nominees

Entries were open for the award in March 2015 and closed on April 1, 2015. The article submission must have been aired or published between January and December 2014 and only one entry is permitted per applicant. [3] Entries for the Print category must consist of a scanned copy of the original article, without any form of alteration to the content of the original published article. Folashade Adebayo, The Punch Newspaper Columnist emerged winner in the Print Category for her two-part article on the coverage of the Ebola Virus Disease outbreak in 2014. [4] The first part of the article was titled "A Walk Through The Valley of Ebola" and the second part titled "Ebola: Nigerian Health workers Take Battle to the Lion’s Den as its headline. [5] Vvienne Irikefe, a Television Continental's correspondent emerged winner in the Broadcast Category and Jennifer Igwe, an editor of the Nigerian Television Authority emerged as runner-up in the same category. Reuben Adeleye Abati is a Nigerian Journalist, Politician, Television Anchor and Newspaper Columnist. He was the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)'s Deputy Governorship candidate in Ogun State for the 2019 Gubernatorial election. Abati was Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to President Goodluck Jonathan of Nigeria between Year 2011 and 2015. He was previously a newspaper columnist and the chairman of the editorial board of the Nigerian newspaper The Guardian from 2001 to 2011. He is a graduate of Theater Arts from the University of Calabar. Equally important, Reuben Abati is a Senior Research Associate with the Olusegun Obasanjo Centre for Cultural Studies and National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN).

The i is a British national newspaper published in London by Daily Mail and General Trust and distributed across the United Kingdom. The Nigerian Academy of Science is the official science academy of Nigeria. The academy of science was established on 18 January 1977, as an association of Nigeria's foremost scientists, but incorporated in 1986. It is the apex scientific organization in Nigeria. The Academy acts as a scientific advisor to the Federal Government of Nigeria, funds research fellowships, and scientific start-up companies. The Academy is governed by its council, which is chaired by the academy's president, according to a set of Statutes and Bye-laws. The members of council and the president are elected from, and by its Fellows. The basic members of the Academy are also elected by existing Fellows. There are currently 268 Fellows allowed to use the postnominal title FAS, with not more than 10 new Fellows appointed each year. The current president is Professor Ekanem Ikpi Braide, a professor of Parasitology. The Nigerian Academy of Science is Nigeria's national representative on such bodies as the International Science Council (ISC) – the umbrella body for all science associations and unions – and the Inter-Academy Partnership for Policy (IAP) – the umbrella body for all national science academies globally. The academy is also a member of the Network of African Science Academies (NASAC).

The Nigerian Academy of Science Media Awards are media awards presented annually to recognize outstanding science reporting. The award was founded in 2010 by the Nigerian Academy of Science to honor broadcast journalists and Newspaper columnist who published science-related articles, such as articles on health, technology and environment. The award presentation is often attended by numerous media representatives, politicians, celebrities, journalists across the world. The most recent ceremony, honouring journalists in 2017, was held at Sheraton hotel, Mobolaji Bank Anthony way, Maryland, Lagos State, Nigeria on August 10, 2017.

Oluwatoyosi Ogunseye is a Nigerian journalist, and as of August 2023, the President & CEO of the Presidential Precinct. She formerly served as the head of language services at BBC World Service and was the first female Sunday editor of The Punch Newspaper. She is also a 2014 Mandela Washington Fellowship Alumna, having completed her Fellowship at the Presidential Precinct.

Akah Nnani is a Nigerian actor, TV host, content creator, and YouTuber, well known for his supporting role in Banana Island Ghost, which earned him a nomination at the 14th, and 15th editions of The AMA Awards in the Best Actor in a Supporting Role category in 2018 and 2019. In 2022, he returned to screen with a lead role in the Netflix Original movie, Man of God, as Samuel Obalolu.
