A. M. H. Nazeem is the Member of the Legislative Assembly for the Karaikal South constituency and a former health minister and opposition leader of Puducherry union territory in India. [1]
He is the son of Hameed Maraicaiar. His age is 59.[ when? ] He is a member of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK).
Nazeem's political career started in the year 1983. In 1990, he was elected to the Puducherry Assembly from Karaikal North in 1991, 1996, 2001 and 2006. In 1996, when DMK was in power, he became the health minister. In 2006, he was the opposition leader. [2] In 2011, Nazeem once again became MLA, contesting in the newly created Karaikal South constituency, defeating V.K.Ganapathy by nearly 1500 votes. [3] [4] He was defeated by K. A. U. Asana in the 2016 election by 20 votes, after many alliance party workers worked against him. [5] In 2021 elections, Nazeem defeated his rival K.A.U. Asana, by scoring 71.15% votes. [6]
Nazeem is the MLA who helped with the re-construction of Chandra Theertham temple tank. He is responsible for the festival of theppam in the Chandra Theertham temple tank after 30 years.[ citation needed ] He helped to construct and celebrate the Karaikal chariot festival. [7] He also played a prominent role in getting JIPMER's branch in Karaikal, NIT and construction of the fishing harbour. [8]
The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam is a political party based in the state of Tamil Nadu where it is currently the ruling party having a comfortable majority without coalition support and the union territory of Puducherry where it is currently the main opposition.
The Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam is an Indian regional political party in the state of Tamil Nadu. The Puducherry Legislative Assembly is the unicameral legislature of the Indian union territory (UT) of Puducherry, which comprises four districts: Puducherry, Karaikal, Mahé and Yanam. Out of eight union territories of India, only three have legislatures and they are Delhi, Puducherry and Jammu and Kashmir. After delimitation shortly after its formation, the Puducherry legislative assembly has 33 seats, of which 5 are reserved for candidates from scheduled castes and 3 members are nominated by the Government of India. 30 out of 33 Members are elected directly by the people on the basis of universal adult franchise and the remaining three are nominated by the central government. These nominated members enjoy same powers as elected members of the assembly.

Chandra Theertham is the temple tank of Karaikal Ammayar Temple, Nithyakalyana Perumal Temple and the Karaikal Kailasanathar Temple. The Karaikal float festival (Theppam) celebrated in this temple tank.
Nithyakalyana Perumal Temple is one of the three famous temple in the port city of Karaikal, Puducherry, India. It is nearby the Karaikal Ammayar Temple. The temple tank of Chandra Theertham separates the two temples. The temple tank belongs to both the temples. The Nithyakalyana Perumal temple is located on the Bharathiar Street of Karaikal.
Anandan Geetha is the MLA elected from Neravy T.R.Pattinam constituency of the Karaikal district. She belongs to the party of Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the only DMK MLA in Karaikal region in 2016 assembly election.

K. Venkatesan is an Indian politician. He was elected to the Puducherry Legislative Assembly from Thattanchavady, Puducherry in the by-election in 2019 by a narrow margin of about 1000 votes as a member of the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam.
