The Association Management Company (AMC) Institute (AMCI) is an international organisation representing the association management company, or AMC, sector. Since 2016, the AMCI has been offering accreditation to its members based on standards approved by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). In 2007, the institute collaborated with the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) to support the AMC accreditation program, thereby providing clear guidance to associations interested in being managed by AMCs. AMCI members include SmithBucklin, [7] [ non-primary source needed ] the world's largest association management company, MCI Group, the world's largest professional conference organizers. The Association Management Company Institute (AMCI) was established in 1963 as the Multiple Association Management Institute. Over the years, the name of the organization has changed several times, among them the Institute of Association Management Companies (IAMC) in 1976 and the International Association of Association Management Companies (IAAMC) in 1996. In the early 2000s, the AMC Institute was formed as a result of an amalgamation of Association Management Company representatives from the American Society of Association Executives (ASAE) and IAAMC. It acted as a marketing support system that encouraged the promotion of the AMC model. Participation in the AMC partnership could be acquired by AMCs without requiring membership status of either IAAMC or ASAE.
