ASC Duisburg plays in the German water polo league (Deutsche Wasserball-Liga). In recent years, the "amateurs" were regularly in the top group of the league and were the 2013 league and cup double break the longstanding dominance of Spandau 04. Already in 2010, the Cup win was after a waiting period of more than twenty years.
The club have won 6 times the national league (1957, 1963, 1965, 1967, 1968, 2013). In the national cup competition, which was introduced in 1972 and first held in Duisburg, ASC have won the trophy at the 1972, 1989, 2010 and 2013 seasons (4).
Duisburg was the first West German water polo club that reached the semifinals of the European Champions cup (1963-64 season).

Cesare Rubini was an Italian professional basketball player and coach, and a water polo player. He was considered to be one of the greatest European basketball coaches of all time, Rubini was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 1994, making him the first, and to this day, just one of three Italian basketball figures to receive such an honour, alongside Dino Meneghin and Sandro Gamba. He was also inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 2000.
Adana Demirspor Kulübü is a Turkish multi-sports club based in Adana, Turkey. The club currently competes in football, rowing, table tennis, taekwondo and volleyball. It was founded by railway workers of Turkish State Railways (TCDD) in 1940. The football team's success at the Adana League and the water polo team's unbeaten National League titles in the club's first three decades, built a large worker fan base in the city and attracted landowners to finance the club. The club has an intercity rivalry with Adanaspor, which was founded by former supporters unhappy with the management of the club in 1954 and competition among the two clubs for the citywide support and domination, created one of the fiercest rivalries of Turkish football which continues to this day as the Adana derby.

The Basketball Bundesliga (BBL) (English language: Federal Basketball League), for sponsorship reasons named easyCredit BBL, is the highest level league of professional club basketball in Germany. The league comprises 18 teams. A BBL season is split into a league stage and a playoff stage. At the end of the league stage, the top eight teams qualify for the playoff stage, and the teams positioned in the 17th and 18th places are relegated to a lower-tier league. The playoffs are played in a "Best of five" format. The winning team of the final round are crowned the German Champions of that season.
