A Torn Lily is a 1953 Hong Kong black-and-white costume film written and directed by Yuen Yang-an, based on the traditional story of Wang Kui Betrays Guiying. The film was produced by Great Wall Movie Enterprises and stars their 20-year-old starlet Xia Meng (19 at the time of filming) in the lead role.
It became the first Hong Kong film to compete in an international festival when it entered the 7th Edinburgh International Film Festival in 1953, [1] though it represented China. [2] It is also likely the first Hong Kong film released in the People's Republic of China, where it drew an audience of over 8.7 million viewers on 16347 screens in December 1954, about 22 months after it was released in Hong Kong. [3] It is currently kept at the Hong Kong Film Archive. [4]
Raymond Durgnat wrote a not very flattering review in Sight & Sound (Vol. 24–25), calling Chinese films (along with Japanese films and Vsevolod Pudovkin's films) too "theatrical". But he called the first half of the film "beautifully evoked". [3]
Xia Meng, a.k.a. Hsia Moon and Miranda Yang, born Yang Meng, was an actress and film producer from Hong Kong. She appeared in Hong Kong films in the 1950s and 1960s, and was involved in the region's left-wing film scene. In the 1980s, Xia Meng worked as a film producer and was involved in the Hong King New Wave.
Huang Yu-chun, known by her final stage name Ivy Ling Po, is a retired Hong Kong actress and Chinese opera singer. She is best known for a number of mega-hit Huangmei opera films in the 1960s, especially The Love Eterne (1963) which made her an Asian superstar overnight. She played an important role in the entertainment industry for preserving the Huangmei opera art form.

Romance of the Three Kingdoms is a Chinese television series adapted from the classical 14th century novel of the same title by Luo Guanzhong. The series was produced by China Central Television (CCTV) and was first aired on the network in 1994. It spanned a total of 84 episodes, each approximately 45 minutes long. One of the most expensive television series produced at the time, the project cost 170 million yuan. It was completed over four years and involved over 400,000 cast and crew members, including divisions of the People's Liberation Army from the Beijing, Nanjing and Chengdu military regions. Some of the dialogue spoken by characters was adapted directly from the novel. Extensive battle scenes, such as the battles of Guandu, Red Cliffs and Xiaoting, were also live-acted.

Three Kingdoms is a 2010 Chinese television series based on the events in the late Eastern Han dynasty and the Three Kingdoms period. The plot is adapted from the 14th century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms and other stories about the Three Kingdoms period. Directed by Gao Xixi, the series had a budget of over 160 million RMB and took five years of pre-production work. Shooting of the series commenced in October 2008, and it was released in China in May 2010.
Herman Kwan Hoi-San was a Hong Kong actor. His English name was Herman Kwan. Kwan started off as a Cantonese opera actor in street theatre before joining New Voice Opera Troupe (新聲劇團). He also started singing for early Hong Kong film soundtracks and moved on to act in films, mostly adaption of opera in Cantonese. He became famous and acted in many lead roles. When Hong Kong films started to move towards Mandarin, Kwan's career faltered and joined TVB and acted in various roles. Directors and filmmakers rediscovered his talent and cast him in many supporting roles in films. In 2001, Kwan suffered a stroke and was left mute and paralysed. He died in 2006.

It was first broadcast on Shandong TV in China in 1983, and was not completed until 1986. The series was one of the earliest television dramas with an ancient China setting to be produced in mainland China. It was divided into different parts, each focusing on the story line of a certain character. Widely regarded, as a classic in mainland China, the series won a Golden Eagle Award.
Legendary Amazons is a 2011 Chinese film based on the stories of the Yang Clan Generals. The film was directed by Frankie Chan and starred Richie Jen, Cecilia Cheung, Cheng Pei-pei, Liu Xiaoqing and Kathy Chow. The film is based on the same source material as the 1972 Hong Kong film The 14 Amazons.
The Legend of Chu Liuxiang is a Chinese television series directed by Aman Chang, starring Taiwanese actor-singer Ken Chang as the protagonist Chu Liuxiang from the wuxia novel series Chu Liuxiang Series by Gu Long. The series is adapted from four novels in the Chu Liuxiang Xinzhuan segment of the novel series. Filming for the series started in October 2010 in the Water Margin Film City in Dongping County, Shandong Province, China. It was first broadcast on ChingTV in South Korea on 14 June 2012.
The Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils is a Chinese television series adapted from Louis Cha's novel Demi-Gods and Semi-Devils. It is produced by the companies Zhejiang Hua Ce Media and Dong Yang Da Qian Media, and directed by Hong Kong television series director Lai Shui-ching. Filming started on 10 November 2012. God of War, Zhao Yun, also known as Chinese Hero Zhao Zilong, released under the title Dynasty Warriors in Indonesia, is a 2016 Chinese television series directed by Cheng Lidong and produced by Zhejiang Yongle Entertainment Co., Ltd. The series starred cast members from mainland China, South Korea and Taiwan: Lin Gengxin, Im Yoon-ah and Kim Jeong-hoon. The story is loosely adapted from the 14th-century Chinese classical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, with Zhao Yun as the main character. It was first aired on Hunan TV from 3 April to 7 May 2016.
Huang Tsung-hsing was a Chinese Hong Kong actor. He appeared in two films with superstar Bruce Lee such as Fist of Fury as Cook Tien and The Way of The Dragon as Uncle Wang. Huang married actress Lisa Chiao Chiao. Huang also acted with fighting instructor Han Ying-chieh in Fist of Fury. Huang also acted in 70 other movies, many of them about martial arts.
Balala the Fairies, or Balala, Little Magic Fairy, is a Chinese magical girl metaseries created and produced by Alpha Group. Each series focuses on a group of magical girls fighting against evil and dark forces while following their ordinary lives and personal wishes. The first installment was the live-action series of the same name, which first aired in 2008. There were four seasons in total and 52 episodes.
Wang Kui Betrays Guiying (王魁負桂英) is a Chinese story dating from 11th-century Song dynasty. The story was apparently quite popular by the 13th century and is still a favorite among Chinese opera enthusiasts.
