Following the Partition of India in 1947, Pakistan gained independence and inherited various railway lines with a route length of 8,122 kilometres (5,048 miles). Some of those lines were subsequently abandoned or dismantled, such as: [1]

Samasata–Amruka Branch Line was one of several branch lines in Pakistan, operated and maintained by Pakistan Railways. The line began at Samasata Junction and ended at Amruka. The total length of this railway line is 257 kilometers (160 mi) with 20 railway stations. This Railway line was closed in 2011. However recently efforts have been underway to reopen the line. The rail tracks are in the Samasatta-Amruka Section ۔. Work on this railway line is closed.
Bahawalnagar–Fort Abbas Branch Line was one of several branch lines in Pakistan, operated and maintained by Pakistan Railways. The line began at Bahawalnagar Junction and ended at Fort Abbas. The total length of this railway line is 84 kilometers (52 mi) with 4 railway stations.
Shorkot–Lalamusa Branch Line is one of several branch lines in Pakistan, operated and maintained by Pakistan Railways. The line begins from Shorkot Cantonment Junction station and ends at Lalamusa Junction station. The total length of this railway line is 325 kilometers (202 mi). There are 34 railway stations from Shorkot Junction to Akhtar Karnana last station before Lalamusa Junction. Currently, the sole train operating on this branch line is the Hazara Express, which travels from Karachi to Havelian via the Shorkot-Lalamusa branch line.
The Sind–Sagar Railway was originally constructed as a Metre Gauge railway line from Lala Musa to Malakwal, Pakistan. In 1886 the Sind–Sagar Railway was amalgamated with other railways to form the North Western State Railway and railway line from was converted to broad gauge. The Chak Nizam Bridge, also known as Victoria Bridge, was completed in early 1887 over the Jhelum river in Shahpur District and connected Jhelum to Lahore. The NWR Sind-Sagar Branch Line was the new name for the line and continued to be extended with branch lines and designated as part of the 'Frontier Section - Military Line'.
Daud Khel–Lakki Marwat Branch Line was one of several branch lines in Pakistan, operated and maintained by Pakistan Railways. The line began at Daud Khel Junction and ended at Lakki Marwat Junction. The total length of this railway line was 92 kilometers (57 mi) with 7 railway stations. It was known by locals as "choti rail", since it was the only 762 mm narrow gauge railway in the country. The line was dismantled in 1995., The line is now only active from Daud Khel To Mari Indus which is 10 kilometers (6.2 mi)

There are 14 railway stations from Malakwal Junction to Khushab Junction. At present, rail traffic on this line is operational from Malakwal Junction to Pind Dadadn Khan Railway Station.
