Abasin Arts Council (formerly Abasin Arts Society) is an art gallery and exhibition centre in Peshawar, Pakistan. [1] Council is located behind the Peshawar Museum.

History

Abasin Arts Society was established in October 1955 by the Commissioner of Peshawar Division, Musarat Husain Zuberi. [1] It was registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1880. In 1967 its name was changed to Abasin Arts Council. Council's present building was constructed later behind the Peshawar Museum.

Ghulam Muhammad Qasir

Ghulam Muhammad Qasir was a Pakistani Urdu poet. He is considered to be one of the finest modern poets of Urdu gazal. Ahmad Nadeem Qasmi was the one who 1st introduced him in his famous literary journal called "Fanoon" back in year 1977. Ghulam Muhammad Qasir came up with his 1st collection of poetry called "Tasalsul" in the same year and received warm acceptance across the country. He has been awarded with the Presidential Pride of Performance Award (Posthumous) by the Government of Pakistan in 2006–07, for his valuable contributions in the field of Urdu literature.

Bushra Farrukh, is a Pakistani poet. She was born in Peshawar. She is one of the female Urdu poets of Pakistan. She has served Pakistan Television and Radio Pakistan as an announcer. She is the artist of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa who has performed in four different languages Urdu, Pashto, Hindko and English at television and radio. Bushra Farrukh has performed many radio and television programs. All her programs have been enjoyed especially among the youth.

Azakhel Bala Town in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan

Azakhel Bala is a village in Pabbi Tehsil of Nowshera District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is popularly known as Kowi- Azakhel’ Azakhel of the (water) well, as for at least a century travellers used to stop here for water, accompanied by a mosque for prayer and a stable for horses. It lies along the Grand Trunk Road and Kabul River (Abasin) some 15 kilometres (9.3 mi) west of Nowshera. The village lays as a slope to the Cherat Valley down till the G.T Road and then extends to the Kabul River. The majority of the population of Azakhel Bala are engaged in agriculture, mainly potatoes, sugar cane, wheat, corn, tomato, cucumber and numerous other vegetables. According to the Pakistan Forest Institute, "pale yellow silt-stone forms the soil parent material near Azakhel Bala village." The land is mostly marshy. For over more than thirty years, the village hosted one of the largest remaining Afghan refugee camps located here until 2010, which ended when flood devastated the whole area in July, that year

Dasu or Dassu is the district headquarters of Upper Kohistan District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It had 15 Union Councils before the separation of the Kandia valley. Since its being named as Tehsil, the Dasu subdivision has 11 Union Councils. The total population of Dasu according to 1998 Census was 137,519, in 21,487 households.

De Abasin Sape or the Abasin Waves is a professional football team from Afghanistan. They play in the Afghan Premier League. Based in the city of Khost, club represents provinces of Khost, Paktia, Paktika and Logar in the southeastern region of Afghanistan.

Peshawar Fashion Week (PFW) is an annual fashion event held in Peshawar, Pakistan. It represents the culture of Pakistan, especially Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The event is organised by the KHYBER PAKHTOONKHAW Fashion DESIGN and Arts Council (KPFDAC). The first event was held in 2011.

Nishtar Hall is a cultural centre and music venue in Peshawar, Pakistan. It was established to promote and represent the Pashtun culture and music. Hall was established in 1985. It is an only and large entertainment venue in Peshawar with a capacity of 600 people. It remained closed for eight years and opened again in 2000s.

The 2013 Afghan Premier League was the second season of Afghan Premier League, the Afghan league for association football clubs, since its establishment in 2012. The season began on 22 August 2013 with the group stage and ended the season with the final on 11 October 2013. Toofaan Harirod head into the season as the defending champions. Sayed Amjad Hussain(Urdu:سيد امجد حسين) is a Pakistani-American cardiothoracic surgeon, and writer. He has invented two surgical devices – the pleuroperitoneal shunt and a special endotracheal tube, Dr. S. Amjad Hussain has to his credit 50 research papers on medical literature, 20 scholarly presentations to academic institutions, over 60 lectures and presentations to civic, service and other subjects and over four hundred articles on a variety of subjects published in various newspapers and magazines. He was a member of Team Indus which covered the entire 2,000 miles of the river Indus in Pakistan from its source in Western Tibet. This trip is claimed to be the third expedition in history to reach that site. The achievements of the Team Indus were entered into Congressional Records of the U.S. Congress in June 1997. While on humanitarian mission, he donated tons of supplies and equipment to the Dominican Republic, China and Pakistan. Also, his photographs have appeared on 35 magazine covers and in 8 calendars. The Herald Magazine August 2003, introduced Dr. Amjad Hussain as the jack-of-all-trades and master of many.

Arbab Mohammad Sardar is a Pakistani painter, sculptor and a recipient of Presidential award for Pride of Performance.

Abaseen Yousafzai is a Pashtun poet from Pakistan. He is president of the Pashto Academy of the University of Peshawar. Yousafzai has had his poetry published across the Durand Line. Abaseen Yousafzai joined the Islamia College Peshawar as a lecturer of Pashto in 1993.

City Museum was established on an archaeological site of Gorkhatri, Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The museum was inaugurated on 23 March 2006 by Akram Khan Durrani the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The museum consists of three galleries: archaeological, ethnological, and antiquities. The latter is the most recent addition, for the exhibition of the antiquities of the British time which provides detailed information about archaeological and ethnological profile of Peshawar.

Munir Sarhadi was a Pashtun-Pakistani instrumentalist, sarinda player and a folk singer. As a musician, he represented Pakistan in several countries. Munir, in 1978 became the recipient of Pride of Performance, a civil award conferred by the Government of Pakistan.

Ruth Penington (1905–1998) was an American artist, jeweler and activist for the arts.

Salma Shaheen is a Pakistani poet, fiction writer, researcher, and the first Pashto-woman novelist, who also served as the first-woman director of Pashto Academy of University of Peshawar. She primarily wrote poems in Urdu and Pashto languages since started her literary work. Shaheen is recognized one of the prominent women writers in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa who is believed to have made a significant contribution to Pashto language, culture and to its literature.
