The Africa Cup of Nations, commonly abbreviated as AFCON and officially known as the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations for sponsorship reasons, is the main biennial international men's association football competition in Africa. The 1965 African Cup of Nations was the fifth edition of the biennial African association football tournament organized by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) hosted in Tunisia from 12 and 21 November 1965. This was the final edition of the tournament to be held in an odd-numbered year before 2013. The growing enthusiasm for the competition and the increasing number of participating teams led to an increase in the number of participants in the tournament, which rose from four to six teams.
