Puntland,officially the Puntland State of Somalia,is a Federal Member State in northeastern Somalia. The capital city is the city of Garoowe in the Nugal region,and its leaders declared the territory an autonomous state in 1998. Puntland had a population of 4,334,633 in 2016. Geographically to the west,Puntland lays claim to the intra-46th meridian territories that were outside European colonial rule during parts of the Scramble for Africa period.
The Somali Region,also known as Soomaali Galbeed and officially the Somali Regional State,is a regional state in eastern Ethiopia. Its territory is the largest after Oromia Region. The regional state borders the Ethiopian regions of Afar and Oromia and the chartered city Dire Dawa to the west,as well as Djibouti to the north,Somalia to the northeast,east and south;and Kenya to the southwest.
The Majeerteen is a prominent Somali sub-clan of the Harti,which falls under the Darod clan. Traditionally,they inhabit extensive territories in the Bari,Nugaal,and Mudug regions of Somalia,spanning from Bosaso to Garacad,mainly in Puntland state. Additionally,Majeerteen populations are present in southern towns such as Kismayo.
The Ogaden National Liberation Front is a social and political movement,founded in 1984 to campaign for the right to self-determination for Somalis in the Ogaden or Somali Region of Ethiopia. Its armed wing,led by Ogaden national army waged an insurgency against the Ethiopian government from 1994 to 2018.
The Isaaq is a major Somali clan family. It is one of the largest Somali clan families in the Horn of Africa,with a large and densely populated traditional territory.
The Darod is a Somali clan. The forefather of this clan is Sheikh Abdirahman bin Isma'il al-Jabarti,more commonly known as Darod. The clan primarily settles the apex of the Horn of Africa and its peripheries,the Somali hinterlands adjacent to Oromia (Ogaden),and both sides of the Kenya–Somalia border. The Darod clan is the largest Somali clan family in the Horn of Africa.
The Dir is one of the largest and most prominent Somali clans in the Horn of Africa. They are also considered to be the oldest Somali stock to have inhabited the region. Its members inhabit Djibouti,Somalia,Ethiopia,and northeastern Kenya.
Harti,meaning "strong man",is a Somali clan confederation,part of the larger Darod clan. The major sub-clans within Harti include the Majeerteen,Warsangeli,Maganlabe,Tiinle,Kabtaanle,Dishiishe and Dhulbahante while the minor sub-clans consist of Kaskiqabe,Geesaguule and Liibaangashe.
Abdirahman Jama Barre was a Somali politician. He twice served as the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Somali Democratic Republic,and later as the Minister of Finance. He was the first Deputy Prime Minister of Somalia.
The Bimaal or Bimal, is a sub-clan of the major Dir clan family. This clan is widely known for leading a resistance against the colonials in southern Somalia for decades which can be compared to the war of the Sayyid in Somaliland. The Biimaal mainly lives in southern Somalia,the Somali region of Ethiopia,which their Gaadsen sub-clan mainly inhabits and in the NEP region of Kenya.
Abdirahman Ahmed Ali Tuur was a Somali politician who served as the first President of Somaliland from 1991 to 1993. Tuur previously served as the Chairman of the Somali National Movement from 1990 to 1991. He also served as the Vice President of Somaliland from 1993 to 1995.
Medrek,officially the Ethiopia Federal Democratic Unity Forum,is an Ethiopian political coalition founded in 2008 by former defense minister Siye Abraha and former president Negasso Gidada. The election symbol of the party is five fingers. On 2008 election,Medrek won a single seat in the House of Peoples' Representatives,representing an electoral district in Addis Ababa. This was allegedly due to lack of election transparency. Medrek won 30% of the individual vote nationwide but received only one seat in parliament since Ethiopia's elections are conducted under a single-member plurality voting system.

He contested in the 2017 Somali presidential elections against Mohamed Abdullahi Farmajo. Warsame was one of the most prominent opposition politicians in Somalia,and a fierce critic of the Farmajo administration,in 2017–2022.
