Abdul Haq Khan [1] is a Kashmiri politician, lawyer, and former Minister for Rural Development Department and Panchayati Raj and Law & Justice, [2] [3] Jammu and Kashmir under PDP-BJP coalition government. He was Member of Legislative Assembly representing Lolab constituency at the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly from January 2009 to November 2018. He is associated with Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party.

Abdul Haq Khan was born in Diver Anderbugh village of Lolab Valley. He has studied B.A. LLB from Kashmir University which he completed in 1977. [4]

In 2014 Assembly elections, Khan was elected for the second time by defeating Qaiser Jamsheed Lone of National Conference by a margin of 2870 votes. [5]

Khan is a critic of the liquor trend in Kashmir. [6]

On 6 January 2019 when his security was withdrawn by the Government, Khan blamed BJP for the same. [7]

In November, 2022 Khan disassociated himself from the PDP and political affairs in general due to health issues. [8] [9] However, Khan rejoined the PDP in August 2024 shortly before the assembly elections. [10] [11] During General Election to Legislative Assembly of Jammu and Kashmir 2024 Khan's son Waqar - ul - Haq Khan replaced him as a candidate for Lolab assembly segment as Khan developed severe health issues and survived a heart attack. He held various positions, including minister of Tourism in Rajiv Gandhi's cabinet and minister of Home Affairs in V. P. Singh's cabinet. Sayeed began his political career in the wing of the National Conference led by G. M. Sadiq, which later merged with the Indian National Congress. In 1987, he transitioned to the Janata Dal and subsequently founded the People's Democratic Party (PDP), a regional political party that remains influential in Jammu and Kashmir, currently led by his daughter, Mehbooba Mufti.

She was the first female chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir. After the revocation of Article 370 of the constitution in August 2019, Mufti was detained without any charges at first and later under the Jammu and Kashmir Public Safety Act.

The Lolab Valley, earlier known as Lolo is a Himalayan valley, located in the Kupwara district of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is named after its founder Mahraja Lolo. Lolab Valley extends from it entrance at Goose Village 1 km (0.62 mi) east of Kupwara to Diver. The valley is an oval-shaped valley 15 miles long with an average width of 3.10 miles (5km) that includes three sub-valleys: Kalaroos, Potnai, and Brunai. Valley is at an altitude of 1,590 metres above the Sea level.
