Abdul Wali Wahidzai is a former governor of Laghman Province. He was appointed 15 June 2021 and surrendered to the Taliban on 16 August 2021,ending his governorship. [1] [2] The Taliban had completed their 2021 Taliban offensive.
Ahmed Wali Karzai was a politician in Afghanistan who served as Chairman of the Kandahar Provincial Council from 2005 until his death. He was the younger paternal half-brother of former Afghan President Hamid Karzai and an elder of the Popalzai tribe. Wali Karzai formerly lived in the United States,where he managed a restaurant owned by his family. He returned to Afghanistan following the removal of the Taliban government in late 2001. He has been accused of political corruption and was allegedly on the CIA payroll. He was assassinated by one of his close bodyguards,Sardar Mohammad,on 12 July 2011.
Laghman is one of the 34 provinces of Afghanistan,located in the eastern part of the country. It has a population of about 502,148,which is multi-ethnic and mostly a rural society. The city of Mihtarlam serves as the capital of the province. In some historical texts the name is written as "Lamghan" or as "Lamghanat".
Panjshir is one of the thirty-four provinces of Afghanistan,located in the northeastern part of the country containing the Panjshir Valley. The province is divided into seven districts and contains 512 villages. As of 2021,the population of Panjshir province was about 173,000. Bazarak serves as the provincial capital.
Abdul Jabbar Naeemi is an Afghan diplomat and politician. He served as the governor of Laghman Province in Afghanistan,and before that was governor Khost province and Maidan Wardak province of Afghanistan. At one time he served as a representative from Kandahar Province to the Loya Jirga. In 2004 he was Hamid Karzai's election agent in Pakistan,where he campaigned for Karzai and worked on educating local Afghans about the democratic process.
Haji Abdul Qadeer was a prominent Northern Alliance leader in Afghanistan and opposed the Taliban. Originally a commander of the Hezb-i Islami Khalis faction during the Soviet–Afghan War,he then served as governor of Nangarhar Province,the head of the Eastern Afghanistan Shura,and later Vice President of Afghanistan and Minister of Public Works in the administration of Hamid Karzai from 19 June 2002 until his assassination on 6 July 2002. He was the older brother of fellow anti-Soviet and Northern Alliance commander Abdul Haq,who was executed in late 2001 by the Taliban.
Fazlullah Mujadedi also known as Abdul Hameed Mujadedi or Abdul Hameed Fazlullah Mujadedi was an Afghan politician in Afghanistan,previously serving as Governor of Logar,Laghman and Takhar provinces. He was one of the prominent commanders of Jamiat-e Islami during the 1980s Soviet–Afghan War. He was amongst the earliest generation of anti-Soviet fighters from Kabul University,which included Amin Wardak,Zabihullah of Marmul in Balkh and Ahmad Shah Massoud.
Maulavi Mohammed Abdul Kabir is a senior member of the Taliban leadership and an acting third deputy prime minister,alongside Abdul Ghani Baradar and Abdul Salam Hanafi,of Afghanistan since 4 October 2021. He previously was the acting prime minister of Afghanistan from 16 April 2001 to 13 November 2001.
Mihtarlam,also spelled Mehtar Lam,is the sixteenth-largest city of Afghanistan. It is the capital of Laghman Province and center of Mihtarlam District. It is the only large urban settlement in the province. The town is situated in the valley formed by the Alishang and Alingar rivers,47 km northwest of the city of Jalalabad. There is a paved road between the cities that takes approximately one hour to travel by car.

On 23 October 2016,he was appointed as the senior adviser for the minister of borders,tribal affairs,and provincial governor of Nangarhar province until he resigned in April 2018. From 2004 to 2006,he served as Governor of Paktika province. From 2006 to 2008,he served as the Governor of Laghman province. From March 2008 to September 2012,he served as provincial governor of Helmand province.
Sāfī is a major branch of the greater Ghurghakhti Pashtun tribe. Mullah Abdul Salam Rocketi is a former mujahideen "freedom fighter" and Taliban military commander who renounced his allegiance to run for the Parliament of Afghanistan in 2005,and for the Presidency in 2009. The Asia Times described him as one of the former Taliban who "... act as the Taliban's political wing in Kabul." Rocketi is an ethnic Pashtun from Zabul Province in Afghanistan. Son of Haji Manzar,he had almost completed his religious studies before he joined the mujahedeen war against the foreign invaders.
Lutfullah Mashal is a politician in Afghanistan who last served as spokesman for the National Directorate of Security (NDS). Prior to that he was Governor of Laghman province. He is also a writer and a poet.
Abdul Basir Salangi or Abdul Baseer Salangi,born on 8 August 1962 in Parwan,is the ethnic Tajik current Governor of Farah province in Afghanistan,and was a commander in the Afghan Civil War,aligned with Jamiat-e Islami and Ahmad Shah Massoud. Additionally,he was chief of Kabul after the fall of the Taliban until he was replaced by General Baba Jan after being indicted in the Shinpur scandal.
Abdul Ghani Baradar is an Afghan political and religious leader who is currently the acting first deputy prime minister alongside Abdul Salam Hanafi and Abdul Kabir,of Afghanistan. He is also a co-founder of the Taliban. He is known by the honorific Mullah.
Abdul Karim Brahui is a politician in Afghanistan and current governor of Nimroz Province. He was Governor of Nimroz Province from 2010 to 2012 and has served previously as a minister in the Cabinet of Afghanistan. From February 2009 to August 2010,Brahui served as the Minister of Refugees. In 2004,Brahui was appointed Minister of Borders and Tribal Affairs.
General Mohammad Yasin Zia,is an Afghan military officer and politician. He is a former Chief of General Staff,former Deputy Defense Minister,and former governor of Takhar Province,Afghanistan. Zia has also served as head of Afghanistan's counter terrorism unit (2011) and as the deputy director of the National Directorate of Security (2011–2015).
The October 2020 Afghanistan attacks were multiple attacks launched by insurgents including the Taliban and Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant –Khorasan Province in October 2020. The attacks left at least 243 people dead and 339 injured. 10 perpetrators were also killed in these attacks.
Abdul Saboor Qani is an Afghan politician and former governor of Herat Province. Appointed 15 June 2021,he was the governor during the 2021 Taliban offensive and surrendered to the Taliban on 13 August 2021 after the Fall of Herat. The day before,he said that Taliban attacks had been pushed back. Qani was previously the senior deputy minister for the Ministry of Interior Affairs for a year and a half.
