Abdur Rahman (died 1981) was a Bangladesh Awami League politician and a member of parliament for Noakhali-5. He was a jute workers union leader. [1]

Rahman worked at a jute mill in Narsingdi owned by Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation,where he was a union leader. [2] He had founded the Pakistan Jute Mills Labour Union in the 1960s. [2]
Rahman was elected to parliament from Noakhali-5 as an Awami League candidate in 1973. [3] He was affiliated with Bangladesh Chatkal Sramik Federation which was aligned with the Bangladesh Krishak Sramik Awami League and went into decline after the government collapsed in 1975. [1]
Rahman was assassinated in 1981 after attending a meeting on the Labor Act. [2] [4]

The United Front was a coalition of political parties in East Bengal which contested and won Pakistan's first provincial general election to the East Bengal Legislative Assembly. The coalition consisted of the Awami Muslim League,the Krishak Praja Party,the Ganatantri Dal and Nizam-e-Islam. The coalition was led by four major Bengali populist leaders- A. K. Fazlul Huq,Huseyn Shaheed Suhrawardy and Maulana Bhashani The election resulted in a crushing defeat for the Muslim League. Veteran student leader of East Pakistan Khaleque Nawaz Khan defeated sitting Prime Minister of East Pakistan Mr. Nurul Amin in Nandail Constituency of Mymensingh district and created history in political arena. Nurul Amin's crushing defeat to a 27 years old young Turk of United Front effectively eliminated the Muslim League from political landscape of the then East Pakistan with United Front parties securing a landslide victory and gaining 223 seats in the 309-member assembly. The Awami League emerged as the majority party,with 143 seats.
Abdul Malek Ukil was the president of Bangladesh Awami League,speaker of parliament,home minister,health minister,a member of parliament for many years and a lawyer of the Supreme Court of Bangladesh. He was one of the drafters of the Constitution of Bangladesh and also one of the founding members of East Bengal Muslim Students League.

The 21 August 2004 Dhaka grenade attack took place at an anti-terrorism rally organised by Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue on 21 August 2004. The attack left 24 dead and more than 500 injured. The attack was carried out at 5:22 pm after Sheikh Hasina,the leader of opposition had finished addressing a crowd of 20,000 people from the back of a truck. Hasina also sustained some injuries in the attack. The involvement of BNP-Jamaat led government is still debated.
The Krishak Sramik Party was a major anti-feudal political party in the British Indian province of Bengal and later in the Dominion of Pakistan's East Bengal and East Pakistan provinces. It was founded in 1929 as the Nikhil Banga Praja Samiti to represent the interests of tenant farmers in Bengal's landed gentry estates. Sir Abdur Rahim was its first leader. A. K. Fazlul Huq was elected leader in 1935 when the former was appointed as the president of the Central Legislative Assembly of India. In 1936,it took the name of Krishak Praja Party and contested the 1937 election. The party formed the first government in the Bengal Legislative Assembly. After the partition of British India,it was reorganized as the Krishak Sramik Party to contest the 1954 election,as part of the United Front. The coalition won the election and formed the provincial government in the East Bengal Legislative Assembly.
Abdur Razzaq was a Bangladeshi politician and member of the Awami League Advisory Council. He was the Minister for Water Resources from 1996 to 2001 in the first Sheikh Hasina Cabinet. He was the chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee for the Water Resources Ministry.

Lal Bahini,was the armed wing of Bangladesh Awami League's labour front Bangladesh Jatio Sramik League,that was active during 1972 to 1975 until the Assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on August 15,1975. Lal Bahini was headed by Bangladesh Jatio Sramik League President Abdul Mannan. The force was basically a vanguard of the then Bangladesh Awami League and was used to suppress uprising among the workers.

Socialism is one of the fundamental principles of the Constitution of Bangladesh,along with nationalism,democracy and secularism. The constitution names Bangladesh as a people's republic,and declares all powers to be vested to the people. However,in Bangladesh,as a liberal democracy,the reference of "socialism" is generally used to describe the state's goal to construct an exploitation-free society,rather than its original meaning and implementation,which is characterised by social ownership of the means of production,as opposed to private ownership. The constitution allows cooperative and private ownership along with state ownership.

The premiership of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman began on January 12 of 1972 when he was sworn in as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh after briefly serving as the President after returning from Pakistan's jail on January 10,1972. He served as the Prime Minister of Bangladesh until January 25,1975,for three years,and later led the parliament to adopt an amendment of the constitution that made him the President of Bangladesh,effectively for life.
