Abdus Salam Pintu is a Bangladeshi politician. He is a Bangladesh Nationalist Party member and a former deputy Minister for Education. [1] [2] In 2018,he was sentenced to death for involvement in the 2004 Dhaka grenade attack. [3]
Pintu served as deputy minister for education from 2001 to 2003. After that he served as deputy minister for industries from 2003 to 2006.[ citation needed ]
In January 2008,Pintu was arrested for involvement in the 2004 Dhaka grenade attack. [1] In June 2008,the CID submitted charge sheet accusing 22,including Pintu and his brother,Maulana Tajuddin,a leader of Harkatul Jihad al Islami. [4] [5] In October 2016,he was found guilty on charges of killing through common intention,planning and criminal conspiracy and was sentenced to death. [3]
Pintu was made vice-chairman of BNP's executive committee in 2016,at which time he was in prison. [6]
On 17 August 2005,around 500 bomb explosions occurred at 300 locations in 63 out of the 64 districts of Bangladesh. The bombs exploded within a half-hour period starting from 11:30 am. A terrorist organization,Jama'atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) claimed responsibility for the bombings. The group,led by Shaykh Abdur Rahman and Siddiqur Rahman. Another terrorist group,named Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami,was associated with JMB in executing the co-ordinated attack. Following the bombings,both groups were banned by the BNP Government of Bangladesh.
Tarique Rahman also known as Tarique Zia is a Bangladeshi politician and businessman who became acting chairman of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) in February 2018. He is the eldest son of former president Ziaur Rahman and former two-time prime minister Khaleda Zia. He was born on 20 November 1965,Tarique was involved in politics from a young age and rose to prominence in the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) during his mother's tenure as prime minister in the early 2000s. In 2018,he was sentenced to life imprisonment for organising the 2004 Dhaka grenade attack.

The 21 August 2004 Dhaka grenade attack took place at an anti-terrorism rally organised by Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue on 21 August 2004. The attack left 24 dead and more than 500 injured. The attack was carried out at 5:22 pm after Sheikh Hasina,the leader of opposition had finished addressing a crowd of 20,000 people from the back of a truck. Hasina also sustained some injuries in the attack. The involvement of BNP-Jamaat led government is still debated to this date.
Lutfuzzaman Babar is a Bangladeshi politician who served as the Bangladeshi State Minister of Home Affairs in the Khaleda Zia Cabinet,as a member of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party. 2004 Shah Jalal bombing was a terrorist grenade attack on the British High Commissioner to Bangladesh,Anwar Choudhury. The High Commissioner was injured in the attack and two bystanders were killed. The attack was carried out by Harkat-ul-Jihad al-Islami.
