The Nigeria Police Force is the principal law enforcement and the lead security agency in Nigeria. It was designated by the 1999 constitution as the national police of Nigeria, with exclusive jurisdiction throughout the country. As at 2021, it had a staff strength of about 371,800. There are currently plans to increase the force to 650,000, adding 280,000 new recruits to the existing 370,000. The Nigeria Police Force is a very large organisation consisting of 36 State commands and Federal Capital Territory (FCT) grouped into 17 zones and 8 administrative organs. As at July 2024, the NPF is headed by IGP Kayode Egbetokun. In 2020, it underwent major overhauls.

Mohammed Abubakar Adamu is a Nigerian retired police officer who is formerly the 20th Nigerian inspector-general of police. He was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari on 15 January 2019 replacing Ibrahim Kpotun Idris (rtd) of Niger State. Mohammed Adamu hails from Lafia, in Nasarawa State. He was replaced on 6 April 2021 with Usman Alkali Baba.

Ivy Uche Okoronkwo, Ivy Okoronkwo was a Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) in the Nigerian Police. She was also the second in command to the then Inspector General of Police Mr. Hafiz Ringim. When she was appointed a DIG in Nigerian Police on 5 October 2010, she became the first female to be appointed a DIG. When she was an Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) and posted to head Zone 7, she was also the first female officer to head a command. When she was Commissioner of Police (CP) in charge of Ekiti State, Nigeria, she was also the first female police officer to be posted to head a state Command on the Nigerian Police.

Usman Alkali Baba CFR was the 21st Nigerian Inspector General of Police. He was appointed by the President of Nigeria Muhammadu Buhari to replace Mohammed Adamu who retired from Nigeria Police Force in February 2021. The Police Council on Friday, June 4, 2021, confirmed the appointment of Alkali Usman Baba as the substantive Inspector General of Police.
The 2022 Ekiti State gubernatorial election took place on 18 June 2022, to elect the Governor of Ekiti State. Incumbent APC governor Kayode Fayemi was term-limited and could not seek a third term. Former Secretary to the State Government Abiodun Oyebanji held the office for the APC by a 30% margin over first runner-up and SDP nominee—former Governor Olusegun Oni.
Olatunji Disu is the present Commissioner of Police in Rivers State,a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police, and the former head of the Intelligence Response Team (IRT) of the Police Force in Nigeria, the position previously held by Abba Kyari. He was the Principal Staff Officer to the Acting Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun. Parry Benjamin Osemwegie Osayande is a retired Deputy Inspector General of police. He was the commissioner of police of the former Bendel state during the Anini saga which terrorised Nigeria in the 1980s. Under his watch as commissioner of police in the now defunct Bendel state, Lawrence Anini, the infamous armed robber was captured and executed. In 1990, Parry Osayande directed the operations which suppressed the Bauchi religious inspired riots in which several people died. In 1992, Osayande led the Federal Government delegation to Namibia under the auspices of the United Nations Transition Assistance Group to monitor the behaviour, conduct and activities of the South West African Police and assist Namibian citizens to hold free and fair elections. Osayande retired as Deputy Inspector General of police in 1992. He was later appointed as Chairman of the Police Service Commission in 2010 by the Goodluck Jonathan administration, a position he held until 2014. Osayande served in several committees set up by the Nigerian Federal Government to reform the Police force.
Kayode Egbetokun, is a Nigerian police officer who is the current and 22nd Inspector General of Police. He was appointed by the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to replace Usman Alkali Baba.
