Abubakar Abubakar Kabir (born 2 October 1981) [1] is a Nigerian politician. He is a current member of the Federal House of Representatives, and the chairman of the Committee on Works. [2] [3] [4] [5] He was elected to the House of Representatives in 2019, under the platform of the All Progressives Congress party, representing the Bichi Federal Constituency.

Education background

He attended Hagagawa Primary School, Bichi, Government Junior Secondary School Bichi, before proceeding to Dawakin Tofa Science College for his Senior Secondary School Certificate. He obtained a bachelor's degree in interdisciplinary studies from the New York Institute of Technology and a master's degree in energy management from same university [6]

Political career

Being chairman of the Committee on Works, Abubakar Kabir has provided legislative support and checkmate [7] [8] [9] to critical road projects across the country in engagement with contractors and the Ministry of Works and Housing. [10] [11] [12]

He has led the committee to oversee projects such as the Lagos-Badagry Road, [13] [14] Abuja-Kano Road, [15] Abuja-Kaduna-Zaria-Kano Road, [16] Kano Light Rail Project, [17] Eko Bridge Project. [18]

In his jurisdiction, has delivered social and physical infrastructure, as well as donation of education support to his constituency. [19] [20]

After he lost his re-election in 2003, he was appointed the first Minister of Defence of the Fourth Republic with no prior military background from 2003 to 2007, under the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo. The Lagos–Kano Standard Gauge Railway is a 1,343 kilometres -long standard gauge railway under construction in Nigeria. He is the current member of the House of Representatives from Rano/Bunkure/Kibiya Federal Constituency in Kano State since 2019. Rurum is a traditional title holder from Rano Emirate as Turakin Rano.

The 2023 Kano State gubernatorial election took place on 18 March 2023, to elect the Governor of Kano State, concurrent with elections to the Kano State House of Assembly as well as twenty-seven other gubernatorial elections and elections to all other state houses of assembly. The election—which was postponed from its original 11 March date—was held three weeks after the presidential election and National Assembly elections. Incumbent APC Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third term. Abba Kabir Yusuf of New Nigerian People won the election.

The 2019 Nigerian Senate election in Kano State held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the Nigerian Senate to represent Kano State. Ibrahim Shekarau representing Kano Central, Jibrin I Barau representing Kano North and Kabiru Ibrahim Gaya representing Kano south all won on the platform of All Progressives Congress.

The 2019 Nigerian House of Representatives elections in Kano State was held on February 23, 2019, to elect members of the House of Representatives to represent Kano State, Nigeria.

The 2023 Nigerian House of Representatives elections were held on 25 February 2023 where voters elected members of the House of Representatives using first-past-the-post voting in all 360 federal constituencies. The last regular House elections for all districts were in 2019.
