The Academy of Medical Educators (AoME) is a multi-professional body which is the standard setting body for clinical teachers in the United Kingdom. It was formed in 2006 and has developed recognised frameworks for educators.
The academy has stated aims which relate to the advancement of medical education for the public benefit. [1] This includes developing a transparent career structure for specialist medical educators. [2]
The academy funds some research, including gathering evidence in support of their policies. [3]
The academy was established in October 2006. [4] It became the first professional organisation for medical educators which was designed to offer career support to members through a registerable qualification and professional accreditation. [5] By January 2008, the academy had internal governance structures in place. [6]
The academy published the first professional standards for medical educators in 2009. The standards were revised in 2012 and then again in 2015.
The General Medical Council (GMC) have adopted the AoME's "Framework for Supervisors" (2010), as the framework for the criteria which all trainers in recognised roles will be expected to provide evidence of their ongoing professional development against. [7]
Members are entitled to use the post nominals MAcadMEd and fellows may use FAcadMEd.
Full membership can also be gained where individuals have gained certain educational qualifications from an institution that is accredited by AoME. [8]
Some medical colleges have an arrangement where they are corporate partners with the academy. [9]
On 12 October 2006, the academy became a Company Limited by Guarantee with Companies' House (Company number 5965178). [4] It registered as a charity with the Charity Commission for England and Wales on 2 April 2009. [11]
The academy is governed by a Council of Trustees, who are also the Directors of the company. There are 18 members of Council (16 of whom are elected by the members of the academy) including Honorary Officers whose have roles in providing strategic advice. [12]

The Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada is a regulatory college which acts as a national, nonprofit organization established in 1929 by a special Act of Parliament to oversee the medical education of specialists in Canada.
Clinical governance is a systematic approach to maintaining and improving the quality of patient care within the National Health Service (NHS) and private sector health care. Clinical governance became important in health care after the Bristol heart scandal in 1995, during which an anaesthetist, Dr Stephen Bolsin, exposed the high mortality rate for paediatric cardiac surgery at the Bristol Royal Infirmary. It was originally elaborated within the United Kingdom National Health Service (NHS), and its most widely cited formal definition describes it as:

Sir Kenneth Charles Calman, HonFAcadMEd is a Scottish doctor and academic who formerly worked as a surgeon, oncologist and cancer researcher and held the position of Chief Medical Officer of Scotland, and then England. He was Warden and Vice-Chancellor of Durham University from 1998 to 2006 before becoming Chancellor of the University of Glasgow. He held the position of Chair of the National Cancer Research Institute from 2008 until 2011. From 2008 to 2009, he was convener of the Calman Commission on Scottish devolution.
The Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP) is the professional body for general (medical) practitioners in the United Kingdom. The RCGP represents and supports GPs on key issues including licensing, education, training, research and clinical standards. It is the largest of the medical royal colleges, with over 54,000 members. The RCGP was founded in 1952 in London, England and is a registered charity. Its motto is Cum Scientia Caritas – "Compassion [empowered] with Knowledge."
Advance HE is a British charity and professional membership scheme promoting excellence in higher education. It advocates evidence-based teaching methods and awards fellowships as professional recognition for university teachers. Founded in 2003, the Higher Education Academy was responsible for the UK Professional Standards Framework for higher education practitioners and merged to form Advance HE on 21 March 2018.
In medicine, a case report is a detailed report of the symptoms, signs, diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up of an individual patient. Case reports may contain a demographic profile of the patient, but usually describe an unusual or novel occurrence. Some case reports also contain a literature review of other reported cases. Case reports are professional narratives that provide feedback on clinical practice guidelines and offer a framework for early signals of effectiveness, adverse events, and cost. They can be shared for medical, scientific, or educational purposes.

Hospital accreditation has been defined as “A self-assessment and external peer assessment process used by health care organizations to accurately assess their level of performance in relation to established standards and to implement ways to continuously improve”. Critically, accreditation is not just about standard-setting: there are analytical, counseling and self-improvement dimensions to the process. There are parallel issues in evidence-based medicine, quality assurance and medical ethics, and the reduction of medical error is a key role of the accreditation process. Hospital accreditation is therefore one component in the maintenance of patient safety. However, there is limited and contested evidence supporting the effectiveness of accreditation programs.

Researchers use a variety of quality measures to attempt to determine health care quality, including counts of a therapy's reduction or lessening of diseases identified by medical diagnosis, a decrease in the number of risk factors which people have following preventive care, or a survey of health indicators in a population who are accessing certain kinds of care.
Norwich Medical School is a medical school based at the University of East Anglia, in Norwich, England. It is part of the Faculty of Medicine and Health sciences at the university. The first intake of students was in 2002. The school has a 5-year MBBS course, with the possibility of intercalation after year 3 or 4.

Sir Terence John Stephenson, is a Northern Irish consultant paediatric doctor and chair of the Health Research Authority (HRA). He is also the Nuffield Professor of Child Health at University College London (UCL). Stephenson was most notable for guiding the RCPCH in agreeing 10 published national standards, Facing the Future: Standards for Paediatric Services. This was the first time the College committed publicly to a defined set of standards for all children receiving inpatient care or assessment across the UK.
The Faculty of Medical Leadership and Management (FMLM) is an intercollegiate professional body which promotes excellence in leadership on behalf of all doctors in the United Kingdom. The faculty was formed in 2011 and has 2,600 members, who are Members or accredited as Fellows in increasing seniority: Associate Fellow (AFFMLM), Fellow (FFMLM) or Senior Fellow (SFFMLM).
