Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys

Last updated

The Academy of Truck Accident Attorneys (ATAA) is a professional organization founded in 2016 by attorneys Joe Fried and Michael Leizerman. It is dedicated to educating and supporting attorneys who handle truck accident litigation. The ATAA provides legal training, resources, and networking opportunities to help personal injury lawyers effectively represent victims of commercial truck crashes. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] [6]

In collaboration with the National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA), the ATAA developed the Truck Accident Law Board Certification, which is accredited by the American Bar Association (ABA). [7] [8] Attorneys obtain certification by meeting specific professional qualifications and demonstrating experience in multiple truck accident cases. Some board members of the ATAA also teach classes about trucking law and best practices for handling truck crash cases. [9] [10] [11] [12]

Attorney and ATAA board member Andrew Young was interviewed in “America’s Dangerous Trucks,” an episode of the PBS series Frontline about the risk of deadly accidents involving semi-trailer trucks and trucking industry opposition to life-saving safety measures. [13] [14]

At a trucking industry conference in 2024, a defense lawyer urged trucking companies to be proactive in protecting data and records due to ATAA and the group’s attorneys who have passed “a rigorous testing process to ensure an accomplished level of knowledge, experience and capabilities in the specialized area of trucking litigation.” [15]

The ATAA also advocates for legislation to improve trucking regulations and road safety. [16] [17]
