Gadjah Mada University is a public research university located in Sleman, Special Region of Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Officially founded on 19 December 1949, Gadjah Mada University is one of the oldest and largest institutions of higher education in the country, and has been credited as one of the best universities in Indonesia. In the 2023 QS World Universities Ranking, UGM is ranked 1st in Indonesia and 231st in the world.

Herman Johannes was an Indonesian professor, scientist, politician and National Hero. Johannes was the rector of Universitas Gadjah Mada in Yogyakarta (1961–1966), Coordinator for Higher Education from 1966 to 1979, a member of Indonesia's Presidential Supreme Advisory Council from 1968 to 1978, and the Minister for Public Works and Energy (1950–1951). Budiman Sudjatmiko, MA, MPhil is an Indonesian activist, politician and actor. He is known for co-authoring the Indonesian Village Law and founding the Innovators 4.0 Movement. He is also known as a reform activist for his involvement in founding and leading the People's Democratic Party (PRD), and infamously, reading out the PRD manifesto in the courtroom. Hary Gunarto is an Indonesian computer engineer and scientist, writer, researcher and professor emeritus at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University in Japan who is recognized for his research and major publications ranging from computer network, computer programming/computer simulation and applications of ICT in business and social science. One of his books on information technology presented to help Indonesian-Malay speaking people and to serve the needs for common understanding of new and specific computer terms appeared in most ICT-related information and Internet news in those countries. Mubyarto was an Indonesian economist. He was born in Sleman, in Yogyakarta, and became a professor of economics at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta specialising in agricultural economics. He frequently wrote and spoke about challenges of agricultural development in Indonesia. Later in his career he became known for his interest in Pancasila economics and ekonomi rakyat.
Beddu Amang was an Indonesian economist. He served as the head of the State Logistics Agency (Bulog) from 1995 to 1998. Born and raised in South Sulawesi, Beddu migrated to Yogyakarta and finished his university education at the Gadjah Mada University.

Briza is currently studying law at Gadjah Mada University and became a permanent MTQ delegate of the university after winning the National Student Competition for Arts and Sports at Ahmad Dahlan University, in 2023.
