Adamantia Grigoriadou was a Greek revolutionary and soldier in the Greek War of Independence. [1]
Adamantia was born in Zourtsa to a family of three sisters and five brothers her father, Theodoros Papatheodoropoulos was a clergyman in 1970 she married her husband, Gregory Grigoriadis a Greek man from a wealthy family. On May 12, 1793 she gave birth to her first son, Athanasios Grigoriadis in Kyparissia. Two years later on November 10, 1795 she gave birth to her second son Georgios Grigoriadis in her hometown Zourtsa. her husband was executed by the Ottomans on February 22, 1819 for harboring revolutionary movements. One day at an inn while traveling villages she was insulted by a Turkish man in response she attacked with a pistol and Scimitar causing the man to flee on another occasion during Easter celebrations Ottoman troops redistricted Greeks from firing gunfire into the air in response she brought her family and loaded weapons saying "Throw, my children, throw as many rifles as you want, and whoever dares, let him come and hinder us." she then sent a letter to an Ottoman commander threatening him if they came to the village to stop the celebrations the villagers will respond in violence the commander respected her bravery so he allowed the celebration. In October 1827 she went to visit her maternal uncle who was ill in Albania while there the village was taken over by the Ottomans she and her uncle fled the village on a horse while fleeing she was pursued by an Ottoman soldier on a horse the soldier fired a shot at her which Adamantia dodge she fired back killing the soldier. She died on July 10, 1873 in Athens [5]
