Adams Dabotorudima is a Nigerian politician who is the current Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly and the Representative from Okrika to the House of Assembly. He was elected in December 2015 to replace Ikuinyi Owaji Ibani who had resigned for personal reasons. [1]

Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi is a Nigerian politician, who served as the federal minister of transportation of Nigeria from 2015 to 2022 under the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari. He had previously served as governor of oil-rich Rivers State, from 2007 to 2015 and earlier, as speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly from 1999 to 2007. The Ibani people are of Ijaw ethnic group who live along with the Ijaw speaking people in the Bonny and Opobo areas of Rivers State, Nigeria, on the Atlantic coast. Bonny town is the tribal seat of the Ibani which is located on the bight of Bonny River. Ibani language is spoken predominantly by residents of Bonny and Opobo. Bonny's development was also shaped by the tribe's close interaction with European traders.

Kalabari is an Ijo language of Nigeria spoken in Rivers State and Bayelsa State by the Awome people. Its three dialects are mutually intelligible. The Kalabari dialect is one of the best-documented varieties of Ijo, and as such is frequently used as the prime example of Ijo in linguistic literature.

The Politics of Rivers State function within the framework of a presidential republic, with the Governor of Rivers State as both head of state and head of government. Rivers State is known for a politically engaged citizenry. The official seat of government is in Port Harcourt. Under the Constitution, Executive power is vested in the Governor. This does not change the fact that such authority may also be exercised through the Deputy Governor or Commissioners. Legislative power is vested in a 32-member unicameral House of Assembly. Judicial power is exercised solely by the judiciary of Rivers State.

Ikuinyi Owaji Ibani is a Nigerian politician and Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly. From 2007 to 2011, he served as MHA representing the constituency of Andoni, and from 2011 to 2015, was the Chief Whip of the House. He is a member of the People's Democratic Party. In the 8th Assembly election, he defeated his All Progressives Congress rival by over 50,000 votes.

The 8th Rivers State House of Assembly is the current session of the Rivers State legislature. It was formed after the 11 April and 18 2015 elections. Representatives of the Assembly were elected from 32 constituencies with members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in the majority. The Assembly was inaugurated on 1 June 2015. The elected presiding officer (Speaker) was Ikuinyi O. Ibani, until 19 December, when he resigned and was replaced by Adams Dabotorudima. In December 2016, Ikuinyi O. Ibani was re-elected as the Speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly.

Elections in Rivers State are supervised and conducted by two major electoral bodies, Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). There are 23 local government areas, 319 electoral wards and 4442 polling units in the state. Elections for Governor and the House of Assembly are held every four years, along with federal elections for President and the National Assembly.

Marshall Stanley Uwom, is a political figure and lawyer from Rivers State, Nigeria. He is a prince of the Agba Royal family of Abua Kingdom in Abua–Odual local government area. He is a member of the Rivers State People's Democratic Party. Uwom held various cabinet-level positions in the past, particularly as Commissioner of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development and Commissioner of the Ministry of Agriculture. In 2015, he was elected to the Rivers State House of Assembly where he serves as Deputy Speaker.
