Adder Technology is a manufacturer of information technology hardware based in Cambridge, England, UK. It is the largest producer of keyboard, video, mouse (KVM) controllers in Europe. [1]

The company began in 1984 as Adder Publishing and was rebranded as Adder Technology in 1986. [2] It relocated to Bar Hill in 2012. [3]

Overview

Adder develops hardware-based, remote-management devices sold under the brand 'Adder'. Products include KVM switches (analog and Cat5), [4] KVM over IP, digital signage products, remote office/branch office solutions, and out-of-band management solutions. [5] [6]

Adder Technology has won Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu's "Fast 50" designation in the Deloitte Fast 500 awards for 8 consecutive years. [7] The company has received a Queen's Award for Enterprise. [1]

The company has US, UK, Germany, Netherlands, and Singapore offices and a global distribution network. Some 60% of its production is exported to Europe and the United States. [1] It was founded in 1984 by Adrian Dickens. [1]

PlateSpin is a software suite of Micro Focus International. Originally a standalone software company headquartered in Toronto, Canada, registered in Delaware, US as Platespin Inc. and founded by Robert Reive in 1999 with co-founders added later David Richards, Bruno Baloi and M. Verdun. Intel corp. via the Intel64fund was a key investor, along with 4Quarters Capital, Castlehill Ventures(Barry Laver) and AltaMira, the latter three all of Toronto, Canada. The original product for which the patent was filed was the Platespin Operations Center, the first usable VM provisioning tool for low cost deployment of servers in their VMs to Vmware ESX and GSX on 64bit processors. Platespin Operations Centre was designed to reduce operations cost and more efficiently use the resources of large servers, as well as deal with routine security patches to software servers and their OS efficiently. Reformed after a bankruptcy in 2003, the revived company released three successful products and is now part of OpenText after its acquisition of MicroFocus. PlateSpin products help manage physical and virtualized server workloads on VMware, Microsoft Hyper-V, KVM, Citrix XenServer, Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure.

In systems management, out-of-band management is a process for accessing and managing devices and infrastructure at remote locations through a separate management plane from the production network. OOB allows a system administrator to monitor and manage servers and other network-attached equipment by remote control regardless of whether the machine is powered on or whether an OS is installed or functional. It is contrasted to in-band management which requires the managed systems to be powered on and available over their operating system's networking facilities.
