Agis Stinas

Agis Stinas (1900-1987), his real name was Spyros Priftis, was an executive of the Communist Party of Greece and then executive of various small Trotskyist parties. During axis occupation of Greece he promoted Revolutionary defeatism. He was political mentor of Cornelius Castoriadis.

First years

He was born in a village in Corfu. In 1918 he became a member of Sosialistikó Ergatikó Kómma Elládas. He took part in Greco-Turkish War (1919–1922) and he was an active member of the party. As a prominent member of the party he was sentenced to death, but he just jailed. During 1926 election he was a parliamentary candidate in Corfu region. During 1931 he was expelled from KKE.

Trotskyism

He became a member of Archeio-Marxism party. During the 1935 Greek coup d'état attempt, he was a critical supporter of Democratic army officials. In 1936 he promoted the need for general strike. Afterwards he was arrested from 4th of August Regime and jailed in Acronauplia. There, in 1937 he formed the opinion of not supporting the USSR in the next world war. [1]

Occupation of Greece from Axis forces and civil war (1946-1949)

With the assistance of the far right Metropolitan bishop Pantaleon, he managed to escape. [2] He founded various parties with his comrades Yannis Tamtakos and Cornelius Castoriadis, that had thesis against the communist-led National Liberation Front (Greece) and promoted Revolutionary defeatism. [3] In 1946 he tried to stop his party of having political affairs with Communist Party, and accused Communist Party as a bridgehead of the Soviet Union. After the civil war he had the same opinion against United Democratic Left. [4] In 1948 the fraction of Stinas was represented by Cornelius Castoriadis in Second World Congress of Fourth International. [5] In his memoirs Stinas wrote that he was a member of 4th International until 1947. [6]

Grigorios Dimitrios Dikaios-Flessas, popularly known as Papaflessas was a Greek priest and government official who became one of the most influential figures during the Greek War of Independence. The prefix papa- (παπα-) in the name Papaflessas indicates his status as a cleric since the word means 'priest' in Greek. He was appointed Archimandrite in 1819. Andreas Tsipas

Andreas Tsipas (Greek: Ανδρέας Τσίπας; Macedonian: Андреjа Чипов, romanized: Andreja Čipov; Bulgarian: Андрей Чипов, romanized: Andrey Chipov; born 1904, Patele, Ottoman Empire – died 1956, Bitola, SFRY was a Greek Communist leader during the Second World War.

Rea Galanaki is a Greek author who was born in Heraklion, Crete in 1947. She studied history and archaeology at the University of Athens. She has published novels, short stories, essays and poetry books.

The Kapodistrias Museum or Kapodistrias Museum–Centre of Kapodistrian Studies is a museum dedicated to the memory and life's work of Ioannis Kapodistrias. It is located in the area Koukouritsa of Evropouli in Corfu, Greece. The property was donated by Maria Desylla-Kapodistria great granddaughter of Georgios Kapodistrias, younger brother of Ioannis Kapodistrias and the only one of the brothers who got married. The museum was established in 1981. Ioannis Kapodistrias' summer home in the rural area of Koukouritsa in his birthplace of Corfu, houses the museum, showcasing exhibits commemorating his life and accomplishments. Mrs Maria Desylla-Kapodistria, a former mayor of Corfu (1956–1959) and the first female mayor in Greece, donated the residence to the three primary cultural societies of Corfu specifically for that purpose. The museum also functions as a centre for Kapodistrian and Corfiote studies.

Yannis Tamtakos

Yannis Tamtakos was a Greek political activist, initially of Trotskyism and in his later life, of Anarchism. Due to his political activity, he was chased by the Axis forces, Greek state and National Liberation Front (Greece). For quite a few years before his death, he was the oldest survivor among the active participants of the 1936 Thessaloniki strike.

Aspioti-ELKA

Aspioti-ELKA was one of the largest publishing and printing enterprises of Greece. Founded in 1873 in Corfu by Gerasimos Aspiotis as a factory manufacturing playing cards under the name Elpis it eventually merged with the Etairia Lithographias kai Kytiopoieias Athenon (ELKA) and finally became Aspioti-ELKA.

Miran Pastourma is a renowned pastourma and sujuk charcuterie business and market in Athens, Greece. The market has been in operation since 1922. It is considered the charcuterie of the connoisseurs. Despite the Greek economic crisis, Miran is expanding its business and has doubled in size to accommodate increased demand. The founder of the shop, Miran Kourounlian, is thought to be the man who brought pastourma to Athens for the first time. Miran is considered the largest company of its kind in the European Union. The flavour of pastourma coming from the historical enterprise permeates Euripides Street in the centre of Athens. Miran and its neighbor Arapian Cold Cuts are considered two of the historical establishments of Athens. Miran has been in the same spot in Euripidou Street since its opening in 1922. Miran is the recipient of multiple gourmet prizes.

Nicolas Kitsikis

Nicolas Kitsikis, was a top civil engineer of 20th century Greece, and father of Beata Maria Kitsikis Panagopoulos, Elsa Schmid-Kitsikis and Dimitri Kitsikis. He served as professor and rector of the Athens Polytechnic School, was named doctor honoris causa of the Technical University of Berlin, became a member of the Greek Parliament and Senator during the Interbellum, and joined the EAM-ELAS resistance movement against the German occupation of Greece in 1941-1944. At the liberation of Greece in 1944, he joined the Greek Communist Party and became President of the Greek-Soviet Association in 1945, as well as initiating in 1955, with his wife, Beata Kitsikis, a Communist feminist fighter, the Greece-People's China Association.

Kinaros

Kinaros, is a small Greek island in the Aegean Sea, named after the artichoke (kinara) which it produced. It is located west of Kalymnos and Leros and east of Amorgos, 5.5 nautical miles west-southwest of Levitha. It is the second westernmost island of the Dodecanese after Astypalea, and has an area of 4.5 km². The island's highest point is 296m. It was noted by several ancient authors including Pliny the Elder, Pomponius Mela, and Athenaeus.

Ioanna-Maria Gertsou is a representative of the Greek guide dog movement, through "Lara Guide-Dog School" a non - profit organisation that she co-founded in 2008. She is visually impaired due to retinopathy of prematurity. She is mostly known as "Lara" is the first guide dog related organisation of Greece. She is an activist, promoting human diversity, guide dog access, physical and electronic accessibility and animal rights.

Kostas Lazaridis (1900–1943) was a famous Greek trade unionist. He was a member of Central Committee of Greek Communist Party. Also he was a General Secretary of the worker's section of National Liberation Front (Greece).

Menelaos Lountemis was the pen name one of the most important essayists in the Greek interwar period and post-World War II era. His pen name was inspired by his later homeland's river Loudias.

Samuel of Constantinople

Ilektra Apostolou

Ilektra Apostolou was a member of the Young Communist League of Greece, United Panhellenic Organization of Youth and the Communist Party of Greece, participating in the Greek Resistance. She was also a proponent of woman's rights. She was executed by the collaborationist State Special Security Directorate, which was a section of Hellenic Gendarmerie, because of her activity. Besides her action, she is known for the questioning she had with her interrogator: "Where are you from? I am from Greece. Where do you live? In Greece. What is your name? Greek. Who are your collaborators? They're all Greeks. What is your job? I work for the Greek people."

Emmanuel or Manolis Mormoris was a 16th-century Cretan military commander and notable political figure in the Republic of Venice. He was the military commander of a Greek revolt in Ottoman-ruled Epirus at the time of the Ottoman-Venetian War of 1570-1573.

Greeks for the Fatherland is a Greek far-right political party with ties to extremism, founded on 4 June 2020, by Ilias Kasidiaris, who is currently serving a 13-year prison term for his involvement in the criminal organisation run by Golden Dawn. He previously served as MP and spokesperson of Golden Dawn for eight consecutive years from 2012 to 2019.
