Tanzania, officially the United Republic of Tanzania, is a country in East Africa within the African Great Lakes region. It borders Uganda to the north; Kenya to the northeast; Comoro Islands and the Indian Ocean to the east; Mozambique and Malawi to the south; Zambia to the southwest; and Rwanda, Burundi, and the Democratic Republic of the Congo to the west. Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, is in northeastern Tanzania.
The politics of Tanzania takes place in a framework of a unitary presidential democratic republic, whereby the President of Tanzania is both head of state and head of government, and of a multi-party system. Executive power is exercised by the government. Legislative power is vested in both the government and parliament. The party system is dominated by the Chama Cha Mapinduzi. The Judiciary is independent of the executive and the legislature.
The East African Community (EAC) is an intergovernmental organisation composed of six countries in the African Great Lakes region in eastern Africa: Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Paul Kagame, the president of Rwanda, is the EAC's chairman. The organisation was founded in 1967, collapsed in 1977, and was revived on 7 July 2000. In 2008, after negotiations with the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA), the EAC agreed to an expanded free trade area including the member states of all three organizations. The EAC is an integral part of the African Economic Community. The capital of the EAC is Arusha, while the most populous city is Dar es Salaam, both of which are in Tanzania.
The National Assembly of Tanzania and the President of the United Republic make up the Parliament of Tanzania. The current Speaker of the National Assembly is Job Ndugai, who presides over a unicameral assembly of 393 members.
Samuel John Sitta was a Tanzanian CCM politician and Member of Parliament for Urambo East. He was the Speaker of the National Assembly of Tanzania from December 2005 to 2010 and Minister of East African Cooperation from 2010 to 2015.
There are currently over 50,000 people of Indian origin in Tanzania. Many of them are traders and they control a sizeable portion of the Tanzanian economy. Indians have a long history in Tanzania starting with the arrival of Gujarati traders. They came to gradually control the trade in Zanzibar. Many of the buildings constructed then still remain in Stone Town, the focal trading point on the island.

Samia Hassan Suluhu is a Tanzanian CCM politician. She became Tanzania's first-ever female Vice-President after she was announced Vice-President of Tanzania in the 2015 General Elections, alongside John Magufuli the President. Before being a vice-president she served as the Member of Parliament for Makunduchi constituency from 2010 to 2015 and has been Minister of State in the Vice-President's Office for Union Affairs since 2010.
John Pombe Magufuli is a Tanzanian politician and the fifth President of Tanzania, in office since 2015. He was the chairman of the Southern African Development Community from 2019–2020.
Hussein Ali Mwinyi is a Tanzanian politician and the 8th president of Zanzibar. He was the Member of Parliament for Kwahani constituency since 2005. He is the former Minister of Defence and National Service of Tanzania.
Charles Muhangwa Kitwanga is a Tanzanian CCM politician and Member of Parliament for Misungwi constituency since 2010. He served as a minister of internal and home affairs in the Magufuli cabinet for five months beginning in December 2015. Kitwanga was found drunk during a parliamentary session on 20 May 2016 and was immediately suspended for drinking during working hours.
Stephen Julius Masele (MP) is a Tanzanian Diplomat, Member of Parliament, global young politician and a former Investment Banker. Masele is the current First-Vice President of the Pan-African Parliament (PAP), an organ of the African Union based in South Africa. Elected in May 2018, he oversees Administration and Human Resources of the Continental Body among others. He also presides over the Pan-African Parliamentary Alliance on Food Security and Nutrition (PAP-FSN), a joint PAP-FAO project for Africa. He has been a member of the Pan-African Parliament since 2010.
Lazaro Samuel Nyalandu is a Tanzanian politician, former member of the Chama Cha Mapinduzi and former Minister of Natural Resources and Tourism. He represented the Singida North constituency in the National Assembly since 2000. He is currently a member of CHADEMA, an opposition party in Tanzania.
