Agustí Grau i Huguet (1893–1964) was a Spanish (Catalan) composer.

Grau was born in Alforja, province of Tarragona, and studied with Enric Morera at the Liceu Conservatory of Barcelona. He directed the Orfeó Alforgenc (a choir) between 1912 and 1920 and was active as accountant for the Associació Intima de Concerts in the city. In 1923, he was the founder and first editor of the journal Revista Catalana de Música. [1]

In 1930, Grau composed the barcarolle Tamarit for piano, a fairly ambitious work, which makes use in its central section of folk songs with mozarabic inflections from the area of Tarragona (in the south of Catalonia). He composed for a wide range of instruments and was particularly successful with publications of his music for the classical guitar. For the fingering of these works he cooperated with Miguel Llobet and Emilio Pujol.

Reapers War rebellion

The Reapers' War, also known as Catalan Revolt was a conflict that affected a large part of the Principality of Catalonia between the years of 1640 and 1659. It had an enduring effect in the Treaty of the Pyrenees (1659), which ceded the County of Roussillon and the northern half of the County of Cerdanya to France, splitting these northern Catalan territories off from the Principality of Catalonia and the Crown of Aragon, and thereby receding the borders of Spain to the Pyrenees.

Beyond the Castle of Tamarit is one of the last remaining forests stretching along the sea in Catalonia, part of which is a small nature preserve. It is also home to the remains of the Roman Villa of Els Munts, which is part of a larger UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Gaià River "empties" into the sea here, its last stretch being a small nature preserve and haven for songbirds, though due to damming upriver, it carries very little water at this last section, forming a tiny salt marsh separated from the sea by a bar of sand. This wildlife preserve is run by L'Hort de la Sínia, an ecological agriculture, learning and activities center.
