Agüedo Point is the point forming the north extremity of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica and the west side of the entrance to Guayaquil Bay. The adjacent ice-free area of Flamingo Beach on the west covers 80 hectares (200 acres), [1] and ends in Terimer Point, the east entrance point of Skaptopara Cove.

South Shetland Islands A group of islands north of the Antarctic Peninsula

The South Shetland Islands are a group of Antarctic islands with a total area of 3,687 square kilometres (1,424 sq mi). They lie about 120 kilometres (75 mi) north of the Antarctic Peninsula, and between 430 kilometres (270 mi) to 900 kilometres (560 mi) south-west from the nearest point of the South Orkney Islands. By the Antarctic Treaty of 1959, the islands' sovereignty is neither recognized nor disputed by the signatories and they are free for use by any signatory for non-military purposes.

Antarctica is Earth's southernmost continent. It contains the geographic South Pole and is situated in the Antarctic region of the Southern Hemisphere, almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle, and is surrounded by the Southern Ocean. At 14,000,000 square kilometres, it is the fifth-largest continent. For comparison, Antarctica is nearly twice the size of Australia. About 98% of Antarctica is covered by ice that averages 1.9 km in thickness, which extends to all but the northernmost reaches of the Antarctic Peninsula.

Guayaquil Bay bay on Greenwich Island, South Shetland Islands

Guayaquil Bay is the 2.59 km wide bay indenting for 1.25 km the north coast of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica and entered between Agüedo Point and Orión Point. The bay is used by ships servicing the Ecuadorian Antarctic base Pedro Vicente Maldonado situated 560 m south-southwest of Orión Point. The area was visited by 19th century sealers operating from nearby Clothier Harbour.

Location

The point is located at 62°26′28″S59°47′23″W / 62.44111°S 59.78972°W / -62.44111; -59.78972 which is 3.2 km west of Spark Point, 2.72 km northeast of Mount Plymouth, 2.4 km east-northeast of Terimer Point, 5.6 km east by north of Aprilov Point and 850 m south of Dee Island from which it is separated by Orión Passage (British mapping in 1968, Chilean in 1998, and Bulgarian in 2005 and 2009).

Spark Point

Spark Point, also Canto Point, is a rocky point forming the northwest side of the entrance to both Discovery Bay and Galápagos Cove, and the east side of the entrance to Jambelí Cove in the northeast of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The point ends up in a conspicuous monolithic formation and has an adjacent ice-free area of 164 hectares. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.

Mount Plymouth mountain in Greenwich Island, South Shetland Islands, Antarctica

Mount Plymouth is a conspicuous peak rising to 520 m in the northeast extremity of Dryanovo Heights, Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The peak has precipitous and partly ice-free northern slopes, and surmounts Teteven Glacier to the northwest, Quito Glacier to the northeast and Traub Glacier to the southeast.

Terimer Point

Terimer Point is the low, rounded and ice-free tipped east entrance point of Skaptopara Cove, forming the west extremity of Flamingo Beach on the north coast of Greenwich Island in Antarctica. It is named after the medieval settlement of Terimer in Western Bulgaria.

Musala Glacier

Musala Glacier on Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica is situated northeast of Targovishte Glacier, east-northeast of Zheravna Glacier and southeast of Fuerza Aérea Glacier. It is bounded by St. Kiprian Peak to the south, Vratsa Peak to the southwest, central Breznik Heights to the west, and Ilarion Ridge bordering Hardy Cove to the northeast, extends 2 nautical miles in east-west direction and 1.2 nautical miles in north-south direction, and drains eastwards into Bransfield Strait north of Fort Point.

Rila Point

Rila Point is a low, ice-free point on the south coast of Moon Bay, projecting 330 m west-northwestwards from Burgas Peninsula on Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica, and forming the east side of the entrance to Bruix Cove. The point is named after Rila Mountain, Bulgaria.

Rongel Reef landform

Rongel Reef, is a moraine reef in the Emona Anchorage in the eastern parts of Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The reef emerged during a glacier retreat in the late 20th and early 21st centuries.

Skaptopara Cove cove

Skaptopara Cove is a 2 km wide cove indenting for 900 m the north coast of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica east of Aprilov Point and west of Terimer Point. Situated northeast of Sevtopolis Peak, southeast of Ongley Island and northwest of Mount Plymouth. Shape enhanced as a result of Teteven Glacier’s retreat in the late 20th and early 21st century.

Targovishte Glacier glacier in Antarctica

Targovishte Glacier is situated in Breznik Heights on Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica, east of Zheravna Glacier and southwest of Musala Glacier. It is bounded by Viskyar Ridge to the west, Vratsa Peak to the northeast, and Drangov Peak and Ziezi Peak to the east, extending 700 m in east-west direction and 1.6 km in north-south direction, and draining southwards into Bransfield Strait northeast of Sartorius Point.

Wulfila Glacier glacier in Antarctica

Wulfila Glacier is located on the southern slopes of Breznik Heights, Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica, south-southwest of Solis Glacier and west of Zheravna Glacier. It is bounded by Oborishte Ridge to the northwest, Nevlya Peak to the north, Terter Peak and Razgrad Peak to the northeast, and Ephraim Bluff to the southeast. The glacier extends 3 km in northwest-southeast direction and 2 km in northeast-southwest direction, draining southwestwards into McFarlane Strait between Ephraim Bluff and the base of Provadiya Hook.

Hespérides Point is a rocky point of land projecting into South Bay north-northwest of Johnsons Dock, Livingston Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica and forming the southwest side of the entrance to Emona Anchorage. The point is a southeast entrance point of English Strait and forms the west side of the entrance to Devesil Bight and the southeast side of the entrance to Micalvi Cove. Ephraim Bluff

Ephraim Bluff is a 425 m ice-free bluff in the south of Breznik Heights, Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. The bluff is linked to Razgrad Peak to the north-northeast and separates the termini of Wulfila Glacier to the northwest and Zheravna Glacier to the east.

Orión Point is an ice-free point on the north coast of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica forming the east side of the entrance to Guayaquil Bay. The feature is named after the Ecuadorian Antarctic Expedition’s ship Orión.

Flamingo Beach

Flamingo Beach is the beach on Drake Passage extending 2.6 km in east-west direction and 600 m wide, situated on the north coast of Greenwich Island in the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica. Snow-free in summer, it is bounded by Terimer Point to the west, Orión Passage to the north, Agüedo Point to the east, Quito Glacier to the southeast and Teteven Glacier to the southwest. The area was visited by early 19th century sealers.
