Karbala or Kerbala is a city in central Iraq, located about 100 km (62 mi) southwest of Baghdad, and a few dozen miles east of Lake Milh. Karbala is the capital of Karbala Governorate, and has an estimated population of 700,000 people (2015).

Every year, millions of pilgrims visit the city to observe Ashura, which marks the anniversary of Husayn's death. Every year for Arba'een rituals that occurs forty days after the Day of Ashura up to 45 million people go to the city of Karbala.

Qatar University is a public research university in Qatar, located on the northern outskirts of the capital Doha. As of 2014, there are over 16,000 students. Courses are taught in Arabic or English. The university is the only government university in the country. Sayed Moustafa Al-Qazwini is an Islamic religious leader. Al-Qazwini can allegedly trace his lineage forty-two generations back to Muhammad. He is the son of Ayatollah Sayed Mortadha Al Qazwini and the brother of Sayed Hassan Al-Qazwini.

His struggle to defend his faith led him from his hometown of Karbala to exile in Kuwait, Iran, the United States, and finally back to Karbala where as of 2013 he led daily prayers at the shrine of Imam Hussein, the grandson of Islamic prophet Mohammad. He leads the prayer of salat Maghrib and Ishaa in the holy shrine of imam Hussein. He is the son of Ayatollah Sayid Sadiq Al-Qazwini and the father of Sayed Hassan Al-Qazwini and Sayed Moustafa Al-Qazwini

He was chairman of Islamic jurisprudence in the College of Sharia at Damascus University, and a signatory to the Amman Message and A Common Word documents.
The Iraqi Virtual Science Library is an Iraqi Virtual Library providing Iraqi academics with access to recourses via the internet. The library, launched in May 2006, initially provided access to more than one million articles from 17,000 electronic journals and other resources. Access to this knowledge is considered vital for the rebuilding of Iraq as it will improve the curriculum which suffered under Saddam Hussein's regime. The library is part of the overall plan to improve access to information in Iraq.
