Ahmad Aladdin Arslan (died 17 November 2014) was a Jordanian military leader of Chechen descent. [1] He attained the rank of Major General. He was the only officer to have received the Jordanian Order of Military Gallantry "Wisam al-Iqdam al-Askari" twice. He led the response to the 1976 terrorist attack on the Amman InterContinental Hotel. [2]

Death and burial

Aladdin was en route to receive medical treatment in Germany when he died during the flight, aged 72. He was subsequently buried on 19 November 2014 in the Chechen Cemetery in the city of Zarqa. He was buried with military honours. His funeral was attended amongst others by Prince Hashim Al Hussein, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mashal Al Zaben, King Abdullah's advisor for tribal affairs Sharif Fawaz Bin Zaben and ministers and deputies. The Pearl Continental hotel bombing occurred on 9 June 2009 in Peshawar, Pakistan, in which 17 people were killed and at least 46 people injured. The blast occurred at the five-star Pearl Continental hotel in the city. The force of the explosion caused the hotel to partially collapse. Gunman also attacked the hotel, firing several shots at survivors. The United States had planned to purchase this hotel to convert it to a consulate.

Al Shishani was sanctioned by the US State Department on 24 September 2014 for reportedly building a base for foreign fighters. While Margoshvili is a Georgian national, he is also a Kist, a Chechen subethnos living mostly in the Pankisi Gorge.

Ajnad al-Kavkaz is a Chechen-led Jihadi Islamic fundamentalist rebel group active in northern Syria, primarily in the mountainous, forested areas of northern Latakia Governorate. Although formed by former Caucasus Emirate fighters and tentatively linked to the organization, Ajnad al-Kavkaz operated fully autonomous from the beginning and later cut its links with the Caucasus Emirate. By September 2016, Ajnad al-Kavkaz had become "the largest of the Muslim factions from the former Soviet Union fighting in Syria." However, the activity of these factions dwindled in the following years. In 2022, the group intervened in the Russo-Ukrainian War on Ukraine's side.
