Ahman Pategi University, Patigi is one of the twenty new private universities in Nigeria that was approved for establishment by the Federal Executive Council (FEC) in February, 2021. [1] [2]

Though, it was approved in February but it was not licensed until April 8, 2021, in a statement signed by the Minister of Education, Mallam Adamu Adamu and the Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abubakar Adamu Rasheed. [3]  

History

The University was established by Hon. Aliyu Bahago Ahman-Pategi and it was named after his father, a former Minister of Agriculture and Health in the first Republic, Ahman Pategi. [4] The University is located in Patigi, a local government in Kwara state, in order to grow the economy of the immediate community, to ensure that Nupes and North Central students have access to University education at discounted rates and to also empower the immediate society. [5]

Department and courses

The University started with two hundred and sixty nine students across two faculties and 15 academic programmes. The Faculties are; The faculty of Humanities, Social and Management Sciences and Faculty of Sciences and Computer. The programmes offered are;  Accounting, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Economics, English language, Entrepreneurship, Forensic Science, Industrial Chemistry, International Relations, Mass Communication, Microbiology, Plant and Biotechnology, Software Engineering, Physics with Electronics and a programme in Taxation. Vice Chancellor

The Vice Chancellor is a former professor of Pragmatics and Applied Linguistics from the University of Ilorin, Professor Mahfouz Adedimeji. [8]

The Pro Chancellor

The Pro Chancellor is Hon. Aliyu Bahago Ahman-Pategi. He was the former member of the House of Representatives of Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency of Kwara North between 2007 and 2019 and he is well known for his traditional title, the Galadima of Patigi. He is also the owner of the institution. [5]

Professor Sunusi Mamman was the Vice Chancellor of Umaru Musa Yar'adua University from 2017 to December 15, 2022. His appointment as the university's substantive vice chancellor came after the tenure of Professor Idris Isa Funtua expired. Professor Sunusi Mamman was once the acting vice chancellor of the university from February to June 2015 and the deputy vice chancellor (administration) of the university from 2014 to 2016. A Professor of Special Needs Education with special interest in Cognitive Exceptionalities. His reign as acting vice chancellor was characterised by massive structural development which gave rise to the utilisation of the 2013 Needs Assessment funds of Tertiary Education Trust Fund (tetfund) that financed for the constructions of additional male and female hostels, Post Graduate Students Hostel and other developmental structures. He also introduced several constructions in all the five faculties of the university. He sponsored academic and non-teaching staff to pursue higher degrees in many universities at home and abroad thereby boosting the workforce in the university.

Aliyu Ahman Bahago, is a Nigerian politician. He is the member of the federal house of representatives for EduMoro.

Patigi Emirate is Nigeria traditional state founded 1898 by Idrissu Gana I the first monarch of the emirate, the name patigi means ' small hill ' the emirate situated in pategi local government of kwara State and the capital of Pategi.

Marietu Ohunene Tenuche is a Nigerian academic, author and a professor of political science. She is the fifth and the first female vice chancellor of Kogi State University, now Prince Abubakar Audu University. Tenuche was appointed by the Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello to take over from Professor Mohammed Sanni Abdulkadir.

He is the pioneer Vice Chancellor of Ahman Pategi University, Patigi in Nigeria, a Fulbright scholar, former Director of the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies of the University of Ilorin, an ex-member of the Governing Council of the International Peace Research Association and a cultural ambassador to the US under the Institute of International Education (IIE), New York.

Samuel Gowon Edoumiekumo is a Nigerian professor of Economics who was the former deputy Vice Chancellor of Niger Delta University and currently the 4th substantive Vice Chancellor of same school.

Akpofure Rim-Rukeh is a Nigerian professor of Microbial Corrosion and Environmental Studies who was the former deputy Vice Chancellor of Federal University of Petroleum Resources Effurun and currently the 4th substantive Vice Chancellor of same school.
