The South-West State of Somalia,is a Federal Member State in southwestern Somalia. It was founded by Hasan Muhammad Nur Shatigadud,leader of the Somalia RRA on 1 April 2002. It was the third autonomous region to be established.
Somalia is a federal republic consisting of six federal states,Puntland,Somaliland,Jubaland,Galmudug,Khaatumo,K.g Somalia and Hirshaabelle and one interim administration. Somalia is further subdivided into 18 administrative regions,which are in turn subdivided into districts. One region,Banaadir,is not part of any state.
Kismayo is a port city in the southern Lower Juba province of Somalia. It is the commercial capital of the autonomous Jubaland region.

The 2006 Islamic Courts Union offensive is the period in the Somali Civil War that began in May 2006 with the Islamic Courts Union's (ICU) conquest of Mogadishu from the Alliance for the Restoration of Peace and Counter-Terrorism (ARPCT) and continued with further ICU expansion in the country. Following the outbreak of the war on December 21,2006;by December 24,direct Ethiopian intervention in the conflict in support of the Transitional Federal Government (TFG) was no longer denied by the Ethiopian government. The Eritrean government denied any involvement despite Ethiopian claims to the contrary.
Following the civil war and the ensuing societal chaos,some factions managed to exert a degree of authority over certain regions of Somalia where they maintained broad,clan-based support. This allowed these factions to establish working administrations and eventually coherent states,and restored order to their regions. This occurred first in Puntland,Southwestern Somalia,Galmudug,Jubaland and finally Banadir.
The transitional federal government (TFG) was the government of Somalia between 2004 and 2012. Established 2004 in Djibouti through various international conferences,it was an attempt to restore national institutions to the country after the 1991 collapse of the Siad Barre government and the ensuing Somali Civil War.
Indirect presidential elections were held in Somalia on 30 January 2009. Due to the security situation in Baidoa,it was held in Djibouti. President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed won the election.
Omar Abdirashid Ali Sharmarke,popularly known as Omar Sharmarke,is a Somali diplomat and politician. From 2009 to 2010,he was the Prime Minister of Somalia. He subsequently briefly served as Somalia's Ambassador to the United States in 2014. In December 2014,Sharmarke was reappointed Prime Minister of Somalia. His term ended on 1 March 2017,and he was replaced by Hassan Ali Khaire.
Azania,officially the Republic of Azania,was a self-proclaimed autonomous state of Jubaland in southern Somalia that existed from 2011 to 2013. A group of Somali politicians proclaimed the creation of Azania on 3 April 2011 in Nairobi,with Mohamed Abdi Mohamed as its President. The state's main intentions were to contest al-Shabaab,which largely controlled Jubaland.
Abdiweli Mohamed Ali Gaas,also more known as Abdiweli Gaas,is a Somali American economist and politician. He served as the Prime Minister of Somalia from June 2011 to October 2012,and briefly afterwards as an MP in the newly formed Federal Parliament. During his time as premier,Ali is credited with having devised the formal "Roadmap for the End of Transition",a political process that provided clear benchmarks leading toward the establishment of permanent democratic institutions in the country. On 8 January 2014,he was elected the 5th president of Puntland.
Hassan Sheikh Mohamud is a Somali politician who has served as the president of Somalia since May 2022. He is the founder and current chairman of the Union for Peace and Development Party. He was indirectly elected as President of the Federal Republic of Somalia on 15 May 2022,defeating the incumbent president Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed. He previously served as the 8th president of Somalia from 2012 to 2017. A civil and political rights activist,Hassan was previously a university professor and dean at SIMAD University,which he co-founded.
Jubaland,the Juba Valley or Azania,is a Federal Member State in southern Somalia. Its eastern border lies 40–60 km (25–35 mi) east of the Jubba River,stretching from Gedo to the Indian Ocean,while its western side flanks the North Eastern Province in Kenya,which was carved out of Jubaland during the colonial period.
Sir Nicholas Peter Kay is a British diplomat. He has served as the British ambassador to Afghanistan,Sudan and the Democratic Republic of the Congo. From 2013 to 2016 he was the United Nations Special Representative for Somalia.

Farah Sh. Abdulkadir Mohamed is a Somali politician. From January to February 2015,he served as the Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs of Somalia. He was also briefly the Minister of Presidential Affairs.
Ahmed Duale Gelle was the 5th president of Galmudug State of Somalia,in office from 3 May 2017 to 2 February 2020. Before he became Galmudug’s president he was a businessman and former federal parliament member.
The Forum for National Parties is an alliance of political parties in Somalia founded in October 2019. The alliance includes Himilo Qaran party,led by former President Sharif Sheikh Ahmed,and Peace and Development Party led by incumbent President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud. Other key leaders joining the coalition include Ilays party leader Abdulkadir Osoble,former South West President Sharif Hassan and former defense minister Mohamed Abdi,the first interim president of Jubaland.
In 2021,elections for the Federal Parliament and subsequently the President of Somalia were due to take place,following a national agreement to reschedule them from the previous year due to the COVID-19 pandemic in the country.
Division 43,Somali National Army is a division of the Somali National Army. Focused on the southern part of the country,it is headquartered in Kismayo and covers the state of Jubaland.
