He became national welterweight champion in 2005 and went to the Commonwealth Games 2006 where he lost his first bout 7:13 to Neil Perkins.
At the African Championships he competed at light heavy and won silver.
At the All-Africa Games he dropped down to middleweight and lost the final 8:9 to local hero Nabil Kassel. At the world championships, he lost his first bout to Bosco Draskovic.
He qualified for the Olympics by winning two bouts in a qualifier, one of them against Daniel Shishia.

He was a two-time light middleweight world champion, having held the IBF title from 1998 to 2000, and the WBA title from 2001 to 2002. As an amateur he won a bronze medal in the light welterweight division at the 1995 Pan American Games, and reached the second round of the welterweight bracket at the 1996 Olympics.

Christopher Cornelius Byrd is an American former professional boxer who competed from 1993 to 2009. He is a two-time world heavyweight champion, having first won the WBO title in 2000 after an upset corner stoppage over then-undefeated Vitali Klitschko. In his first title defense later that year, he lost to Vitali's brother Wladimir Klitschko. In 2002, Byrd defeated Evander Holyfield to win the IBF heavyweight title for his second reign as world champion. He made four successful defenses until losing his title again to Wladimir Klitschko in a 2006 rematch. He was ranked by BoxRec in the world's top 10 heavyweight from 1998 to 2004, reaching his highest ranking of No.3 in 2000.
Mike McCallum is a Jamaican former professional boxer who competed from 1981 to 1997. As an amateur boxer, Geale won a welterweight gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games.
Abbos Abdurazzoqovich Atoyev is an amateur boxer from Uzbekistan, best known for winning gold in the light heavyweight competition at the 2007 World Championships and at middleweight in 2009. Two Egyptian weightlifters were awarded medals retroactively, after higher-ranked competitors were disqualified for doping: Abeer Abdelrahman took silver in the women's 75 kg event, while Tarek Yehia, received bronze in the men's 85 kg event. Among other achievements, Mostafa Mansour was the nation's first competitor in sprint canoeing while fencer Shaimaa El-Gammal became the first Egyptian female to appear in four editions of the Olympics.

Joseph Kennedy St-Pierre is a Mauritian boxer who represented Mauritius at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, where he competed in the men's heavyweight competition. He is a two time African Games gold medalist and a one time Commonwealth Games silver medalist. St-Pierre has also competed in another Commonwealth Games and an African Boxing Olympic Qualification Tournament.
Julius Luipa was a Zambian boxer who won two silver medals at the Commonwealth Games and represented Zambia at the 1968 and 1972 Olympic Games. One of Zambia's best amateur boxers, he was the country's Sportsman of the Year in 1970 and when he turned professional four years later, he defeated George Chisenga to become Zambian light heavyweight champion and held the title until he was dethroned by Lottie Mwale in 1977.
Odai Al-Hindawi is a Jordanian amateur boxer. He competed at the 2019 World Championships and later qualified for the 2020 Summer Olympics, both at light heavyweight. He also won a middleweight silver medal at the 2014 Asian Games.
