Akbar Masood is an Indian academic who was the Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Jammu and Kashmir until October 2024. He had served as the Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Kashmir. He has a MSc from Aligarh Muslim University and a PhD from the Indian Institute of Toxicology Research. He remained associated with the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Kashmir as a member of the faculty since 1988. [1] [2] [3] He was appointed Vice-Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in February 2021. [4]
Masood remained the Head Department of Biochemistry, University of Kashmir for 18 years. He also remained Dean Faculty of Biological Sciences and Dean Faculty of Unani and Ayurvedic Medicine at University of Kashmir. He has more than 250 publications in national and international Journals and has attended national and international seminars, symposia, workshops and conferences. He has been an active researcher in the field of environmental biochemistry, phytotoxicology, protein biochemistry, enzymology, medicinal plants and bioinformatics. He has written 15 books and has supervised 50 Ph.D. and M.Phil. degrees during his career over three decades of teaching and research. For his contributions, he was awarded a National Environmental Science Academy fellowship in 2005 and International Benevolent Research Fellowship in 2006. In 2007, he was awarded fellowship by International Biotechnology Society, Indore and fellowship by society of Toxicology, India. In 2008, he was elected as an associate of the Society of Toxicologic Pathology, Reston VA, USA. He was awarded a fellowship of Linnean Society of London in 2008. In 2010, he was awarded Pioneers in Genomic Education award by Ocimumbio USA in 2010 and was elected as a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemists, England. He was rated as excellent teacher by the Directorate of Internal Quality Assurance University of Kashmir.
The University of Jammu informally known as Jammu University (JU), accredited as A++ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), was established in 1969 by an act of the state legislature which effectively split the Jammu and Kashmir University into the separate University of Jammu and University of Kashmir.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University is a State university in India which came into existence by the Act of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in 2002. The university is named after saint Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah. The university campus is located at the foothills of the great Himalayan Pir Panjal range in Rajouri, 154 km (96 mi) from Jammu, the Winter capital & 180 km (110 mi) from Srinagar, the Summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir union territory. Jawaid Iqbal (professor) is the Vice Chancellor of the University.
Masud Choudhary was an Indian educator, social reformer, thinker and an administrator of Jammu and Kashmir union territory. He was the founding Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Rajouri, J&K. He was also the Chief Patron of the Muslim Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust. Choudhary served in the police and retired as the Additional Director of the General Police (IPS) in 2004.
Dr. Rafique Anjum ڈاکٹر رفیق انجم, a paediatrician by profession, is also a poet, Islamic scholar, and researcher of Jammu and Kashmir who writes in Urdu, Punjabi, and Gojri. He is presently working as Chair Professor in Tribal Studies at Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University, Rajouri (J&K) and the Coordinator, Centre for Research in Gojri, Pahari & Kashmiri of the said University. He is the recipient of the state-level award for Excellence in Literature in 2007 and is a member of the General Council of Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages. He has served as Registrar and Consultant Pediatrician in GMC Srinagar and Consultant Paediatrician in JK Health Services.
R. Lalthantluanga is a retired professor of biochemistry and the former vice chancellor of Mizoram University, India. He is the first Mizo to become vice chancellor of Indian universities, and he is the third vice chancellor of Mizoram University. He is the former head, professor and founding faculty of the Department of Biochemistry, Dean of School of Life Sciences, and pro-vice-chancellor of North Eastern Hill University.
Talat Ahmad is an Indian Earth Scientist, former Professor at the Department of Geology, University of Delhi and served as Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Senior Scientist. He served as Chairman of Governing body which oversees Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun from 1 December 2021 onwards and served the office till 30 November 2027. Previously, he commenced his second stint as Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir on 6 August 2018 and served the office till 20 May 2022. Before that, he served as Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, he resigned from the post a few months short of his full term. He was shortlisted by a committee constituted by the governor to shortlist a panel for the post. He had earlier taken over as Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir from Professor Riyaz Punjabi on 1 June 2011 and served there until the year 2014. Prior to this, he was teaching Geology at the University of Delhi.
M. Afzal Hossain is a Bangladeshi academic and scientist in the field of agriculture and biochemistry. He has been serving as vice-chancellor of Hajee Mohammad Danesh Science & Technology University, Dinajpur, since September 2008. In 1998, he was awarded an invitation fellowship from Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to serve as a visiting professor at Hokkaido University, Japan.
Nazir Ahmed (1915-2008) was an Indian scholar, writer, and teacher of the Persian language. He was honoured by the Indian Government in 1987 with the Padma Shri. He received this award for his contributions to the propagation of Persian Language and literature.

Ravindra Kumar Sinha is a Padma Shri awarded Indian biologist and environmentalist. He served as Vice-Chancellor of Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University from 2019-2023 and also served in Nalanda Open University. Kalappa Muniyappa is an Indian molecular biologist and geneticist, known for his researches on the chromatization of DNA and gene targeting. He is a professor and chairman of the department of biochemistry of the Indian Institute of Science and an elected fellow of the Indian National Science Academy, Indian Academy of Sciences and the National Academy of Sciences, India. The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, in 1995, for his contributions to biological sciences.
James Charles McElnay OBE FCCP FRPharmS is the current Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, Enterprise and Postgraduate Affairs and the Acting President and Vice-Chancellor of Queen's University Belfast. He was elected as acting Vice-Chancellor at a meeting of the standing committee of the university following the death of President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Patrick Johnston. McElnay previously served as acting president and Vice-Chancellor in 2013 before the appointment of Prof. Johnston.

Rattan Lal Hangloo is an Indian historian and academic. He is formerly a professor and the head of the history department at the University of Hyderabad. He served as vice-chancellor of the University of Allahabad and University of Kalyani. Born to a Kashmiri Pandit family in Kashmir, Hangloo completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Kashmir in Srinagar and the Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi. After completing his post-doctoral studies, he worked at the University of Kashmir, the North Eastern Hill University, the University of Hyderabad, and the Central University of Punjab. He also served as a teaching faculty in several other universities outside India. Presently, he is an Honorary Vice Chancellor at Noble International University. He has written a number of books on history and provided his expertise on topics such as the nature of the state, agrarian economy, society and technology, political conflict, and the material culture of Kashmir and other Himalayan communities.
Jawaid Iqbal is an Indian academic who serves as the Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University. He is a Professor of West Asian studies at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU).
