The University of Jammu informally known as Jammu University (JU), accredited as A+ grade by National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), was established in 1969 by an act of the state legislature which effectively split the Jammu and Kashmir University into the separate University of Jammu and University of Kashmir.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University is a State university in India which came into existence by the Act of the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly in 2002. The university is named after saint Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah. The university campus is located at the foothills of the great Himalayan Pir Panjal range in Rajouri, 154 km (96 mi) from Jammu, the Winter capital & 180 km (110 mi) from Srinagar, the Summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir union territory. It focuses on undergraduate engineering courses, a diverse postgraduate courses and research in fields such as management, environment, biodiversity, bio-technology, computer sciences, information technology, and applied mathematics. Akbar Masood was appointed as Vice Chancellor on 13 February 2021.
Masud Choudhary was an Indian educator, social reformer, thinker and an administrator of Jammu and Kashmir union territory. He was the founding Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Rajouri, J&K. He was also the Chief Patron of the Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust.
Central University of Kashmir, formerly Central University of Jammu and Kashmir, is a central university located in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It has been established in March 2009 through an Act of Parliament, "The Central Universities Act, 2009" by Govt. of India. The university started started functioning from May 2009.

He had earlier taken over as vice-chancellor of University of Kashmir from Professor Riyaz Punjabi on 1 June 2011. Prior to this, he was teaching geology at the University of Delhi.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research, the apex agency of the Government of India for scientific research, awarded him the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology, one of the highest Indian science awards, in 1995, for his contributions to biological sciences.
James Charles McElnay OBE FCCP FRPharmS is the current Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research, Enterprise and Postgraduate Affairs and the Acting President and Vice-Chancellor of Queen's University Belfast. He was elected as acting Vice-Chancellor at a meeting of the standing committee of the university following the death of President and Vice-Chancellor Prof. Patrick Johnston. McElnay previously served as acting President and Vice-Chancellor in 2013 before the appointment of Prof. Johnston.

Education in Jammu and Kashmir is based on 5-tier model which includes primary schools, middle schools, higher secondary schools, Colleges and University. As per the census of 2011, Jammu and Kashmir has the literacy rate of 68%. However, there has been an increase in the numbers in recent years.
Aditya Prasad Dash, who hails from the Indian State of Odisha, is an Indian biologist with special interest in malaria and vector borne diseases. His areas of interest include biomedical science, transmission biology of tropical disease, and modern biology of disease vectors. According to Vidwan, the national network for researchers and experts, Dash has authored 320 publications co-authored 699 publications. Since September 2020, Dash has been serving as the Vice Chancellor of Asian Institute of Public Health (AIPH) in Bhubaneswar. Before joining AIPH, he was the Vice Chancellor of Central University of Tamil Nadu during the period from August 2015 to August 2020. He had also worked at the World Health Organization (WHO) as the Regional Advisor for the South-East Region. He has also worked as the Director of the National Institute of Malaria Research (NIMR), New Delhi, of the Institute of Life Sciences (ILS), Bhubaneswar and of the National Institute for Research on Tribal Health, Jabalpur.
Rajinder Singh Chib is a former Indian Air Force officer turned politician from Jammu and Kashmir and member of Democratic Azad Party. Chib served as Health Minister in the Jammu and Kashmir cabinet from 1987 to 1990. On 3 October 2022, Chib was appointed as General Secretary for Democratic Azad Party.
