Akbar Masood is an Indian academic who was the Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Jammu and Kashmir until October 2024. He had served as the Dean of Academic Affairs at the University of Kashmir. He has a MSc from Aligarh Muslim University and a PhD from the Indian Institute of Toxicology Research. He remained associated with the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Kashmir as a member of the faculty since 1988. He was the founding Vice Chancellor of Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University in Rajouri, J&K. He was also the Chief Patron of the Muslim Gurjar Desh Charitable Trust. Choudhary served in the police and retired as the Additional Director of the General Police (IPS) in 2004.
Central University of Kashmir, formerly Central University of Jammu and Kashmir, is a central university located in the Ganderbal district of Jammu and Kashmir, India. It has been established in March 2009 through an Act of Parliament, "The Central Universities Act, 2009" by Govt. of India. The university started functioning from May 2009. The Indian Institute of Ranking Framework (IIRF) placed it in 33rd rank among Central Universities category in 2024.
Dr. Rafique Anjum ڈاکٹر رفیق انجم, a paediatrician by profession, is also a poet, Islamic scholar, and researcher of Jammu and Kashmir who writes in Urdu, Punjabi, and Gojri. He has served as Registrar and Consultant Pediatrician in GMC Srinagar and Consultant Paediatrician in JK Health Services.
Talat Ahmad is an Indian Earth Scientist, former Professor at the Department of Geology, University of Delhi and served as Indian National Science Academy (INSA) Senior Scientist. He served as Chairman of Governing body which oversees Wadia Institute of Himalayan Geology, Dehradun from 1 December 2021 onwards and served the office till 30 November 2027. Previously, he commenced his second stint as Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir on 6 August 2018 and served the office till 20 May 2022. Before that, he served as Vice Chancellor of Jamia Millia Islamia, he resigned from the post a few months short of his full term. He was shortlisted by a committee constituted by the governor to shortlist a panel for the post. He had earlier taken over as Vice-Chancellor of University of Kashmir from Professor Riyaz Punjabi on 1 June 2011 and served there until the year 2014. Prior to this, he was teaching Geology at the University of Delhi.
Mushir-ul-Haq was an Indian academic and author who served as the vice-chancellor of the University of Kashmir. He authored books such as Islam in Secular India.

Education in Jammu and Kashmir is based on 5-tier model which includes primary schools, middle schools, higher secondary schools, Colleges and University. As per the census of 2011, Jammu and Kashmir has the literacy rate of 68%. However, there has been an increase in the numbers in recent years.
Rajinder Singh Chib is an Indian politician and former Indian Air Force officer. He is a member of the Democratic Progressive Azad Party. Chib served as Cabinet Minister of Health, Tourism, Medical Education and Environment in the Jammu and Kashmir cabinet from 1986 to 1990 and was reappointed as cabinet Minister of Technical Education, Medical Education and Youth Affairs and Sports from 2009 to 2014. On 3 October 2022, Chib was appointed as General Secretary for Democratic Azad Party.
Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University is a technical university, located c. 10 kilometres (6.2 mi) outside Rajouri city in the Jammu division of the Indian union territory of Jammu and Kashmir. It is a state university that is regulated by the University Grants Commission, and a member of the Association of Indian Universities. The vice-chancellor, Jawaid Iqbal, was appointed in November 2024.
