Akin Alabi, born in Lagos State, Nigeria, is a Nigerian music video director, writer and entrepreneur. [1] He is renowned as one of the video directors that pioneered the era of hiphop music video production in Nigeria [2] and has worked with several top artistes including 9ice, Timaya, Tope Alabi, Onyeka Onwenu, Reminisce, Tim Godfrey (musician), Ayanjesu, Paul Ik Dairo and many others. Childhood and education

Alabi originally from Ekiti State started his educational journey at Lara Day Nursery and Primary School, Ikeja Lagos, and later obtained his Ordinary Level School Certificate from Federal Government College, Idoani, Ondo state. [4] Thereafter, he proceeded to University of Ilorin, Kwara State to study Business Administration. [5]

Career

Alabi who was into song writing and graphic designing during his university days confessed during one of his interviews [6] that his passion for music prompted him to drop an album in 1999. Unfortunately, by the time Uzodinma Ukpechi, who was one of the major forces behind the camera then gave him the bill, Alabi claimed to have resolved to acquire equipment with the money. His knowledge in graphics and audio production served as a platform to explore his skill. [7]

After he shot a musical video for one up and coming artistes called Nachur for Blac in the 2004, Akin came into fame in 2005 with the musical video of Big Bamo and Paul Play's song titled Crazy. Akin who is also a professional photographer, can now be ranked among the best music video and home video directors in Nigeria. [8]

As an artiste, he formed a group with his wife called T.I.V [9] that went on to release the hit single, Komole in 2012 which went on to win several awards including Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA) for best use of choreography, [10] Nominee for Nigeria Music Video Awards (NMVA) under the Best Gospel Video category.

His collections of video works include Konga's hit track titled Kabakaba, Komole by TIV ft Vector, ‘Gbamugbamu’ and ‘No be Mistake’ by 9ice; ‘Yankuliya,’ ‘God I beg,’ ‘If to Say’ by Timaya; ‘Promise Land’ by Paul Play; ‘Crazy’ by Julius Agwu; ‘Ariya’ by Ayuba; ‘Bu nwanem’ by Onyeka Onwenu; ‘Kabakaba’ by Konga; RCCG Praise Team album video; ‘Igboro Ti Daru’ by Klever J. He is the creator of the animation TV series on Nigerian proverbs called My Nigerian Proverb shows daily on African Magic, [12] Trybetv, YangaTv (UK) and on BRT Buses in Lagos. In 2018, he release a book on Yoruba Proverbs titled Akomolowe: My Book of Yoruba Proverbs. [13] He is passionate about the African culture and he is currently working on using the visual media to conserve the Yoruba culture in particular. He has many awards to his name including the 2012 City People award for Best Video Director, TAVA award for Best Video director and Best RnB video.

Personal life

Alabi married Damilare Alabi in 2008 and together they have a son and a daughter and reside in Lagos Nigeria. [14]

In 2013 she was appointed the Executive Director/Chief Executive Officer of the National Centre for Women Development.

Teria Yarhere is a Nigerian rapper from Delta State who performs under the name M Trill. He released his debut studio album Number One in 2008 along with a follow-up mixtape entitled Ladies and Gentlemen (2010). That same year, he won the "Best West African Act" at the Channel O Music Video Awards for his single "Bounce". M Trill has been featured on songs with Timaya, Cyrus da Virus, Ruggedman, Slim Burna, 2shots, A-Q, Kraftmatiks, Modenine, Godwon, Evaezi, and Pyrelli among others. He was ranked by BellaNaija magazine as one of the illest rappers in the game.

The Headies 2012 was the 7th edition of The Headies. It was hosted by M.I and Omawumi. The ceremony took place on 20 October 2012, at the Eko Hotel and Suites in Victoria Island, Lagos. The aforementioned hosts thrilled fans with their song titled "The Headies". Chidinma opened the show by performing her song "Kedike". The Okoye brothers won a total of three awards. The Artiste of the Year award went to Wizkid. Tiwa Savage and Wande Coal won the Best Male and Female Vocal Performance categories, respectively. Vector won the Best Rap Single and Lyricist on the Roll plaques for "Angeli". Davido won the Next Rated category and was later awarded a Hyundai Sonata. The Headies celebrated the reunion of prominent Nigerian musicians from the 80s and 90s, including Onyeka Onwenu, Oris Wiliki, Mike Okori, Baba Fryo, Shina Peters, Fatai Rolling Dollar and Daddy Showkey. Femi Kuti was honored with the Hall of Fame award.

Patrick Nnaemeka Okorie, better known by his stage name Patoranking, is a Nigerian reggae-dancehall singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Ijegun-Egba Satellite Town, Patoranking hails from Onicha, Ebonyi State. He started his music career doing underground collaborations, with artists such as XProject, Konga, Slam and Reggie Rockstone. He signed a record deal with K-Solo's Igberaga Records in 2010, releasing "Up in D Club" under the outfit. Meji Alabi is a London-born Nigerian filmmaker, director, photographer and producer. He is a director and has worked alongside Beyonce, Burna Boy, Wizkid, Davido, Tiwa Savage, Popcaan, Goldlink, Koffee and Nasty C.
