Shihab al-Din Sayyid Ahmad ibn Isma'il al-Husayni al-Barzanji [a] (died 1919), commonly known simply as Ahmad al-Barzanji, was a Kurdish Sunni Shafi'i jurist who served as the Shafi'i Mufti of Medina.
Ahmad al-Barzanji was born in Medina to a Kurdish family hailing from the Shahrizor region in Iraq. [1] Al-Barzanji gained his religious knowledge from Egypt and later became one of the leading Islamic scholars in the Hejaz. [1] He was tasked with Shafi'i fatwas in the haram and was elected as its deputy in the Ottoman House of Representatives in Istanbul. [1] Al-Barzanji later settled in Damascus during the First World War and died there in 1919. [1]
