Biography

Al Obeidli has a degree in visual arts at the College of Arts and Creative Enterprises at Zayed University, Abu Dhabi, [1] [2] [3] and showcased her work there in 2017. [4] Following a solo exhibition titled Turning Point at Abu Dhabi’s Tashkeel Gallery in 2014, [1] [5] Al Obaidly was awarded the Shaikha Salama Artist in Residence Award. Her work involves mixed-media collages and installations, in both inside and outside spaces. [2] [10] It has been described by one reviewer as "colourful and quirky ... creat[ing] a tension between familiarity, unfamiliarity, playfulness and conceptual distance." [10] For the curator of the East-East: UAE Meets Japan exhibition in 2016, [11] [12] "Al Obaidly’s conceptual vision reminded [her] of the Japanese aesthetic of wabi-sabi." [13] A reviewer for The National described "a few surprising, almost Franz West-like sculptures by Al Anood Al Obaidly that hide within the show" at an artist-curated group exhibition at Bait 15. [14]

Her work has been shown in a number of group exhibitions, such as The (fourth) March Project, [10] [15] From Barcelona to Abu Dhabi: Works from the MACBA Art Collection, [16] and Zayed University in 2018. [17] She has also been featured in 'Under the Radar' on Artslant [18] and in The National . [19]
