The Alâeddin Mosque is the principal monument on Alaaddin Hill in the centre of Konya, Turkey. Part of the hilltop citadel complex that contained the Seljuk Palace, it served as the main prayer hall for the Seljuk Sultans of Rum and its courtyard contains the burial places of several of the sultans. It was constructed in stages between the mid-12th and mid-13th centuries. It is the largest of several Seljuk mosques to survive in Konya.

Alaeddin Pasha, or Alaeddin Bey, was the brother of Orhan I, who succeeded their father, Osman I, in the leadership of the Ottoman Empire. His mother was Rabia Bala Hatun, daughter of Sheykh Edebali. It is not certain whether Alaeddin or Orhan was the elder son. Some historians claim that Alaeddin was Osman's second son, but others argue that there is a good chance that he was the oldest. Nevertheless, Orhan ruled the country and became the first Ottoman ruler to take the title of Sultan. According to tradition and Ottoman historiography as presented by historian Idris Bitlisi, Alaeddin was more passive than his warrior brother, and thus stayed at home instead of fighting to expand the newly forming Ottoman Empire. He received training in the management of the state affairs. There is a good chance that Orhan was selected to inherit leadership of the Empire because of his skills as a warrior.

Alaeddin Pasha was the first Ottoman grand vizier. His father's name was Kemaleddin, and thus he was usually called Hacı Kemaleddin oğlu Alaeddin Pasha or Alaeddin bin Hacı Kemaleddin, meaning "son of Hacı Kemaleddin" He was probably from the town of Cendere, from where the famous Çandarlı family also originated. He was a faqih. He was appointed as the vizier during the last years of Osman I's reign. He continued during Orhan's Bey's reign. Since there was only one vizier in the divan during the early years of the Ottoman beylik, his title was not actually grand vizier, but his post was equivalent to the post of the later grand viziers. Because of this, he is known as the first grand vizier of the Ottoman Empire.
