Alan D. Anyon (born 1931) [1] is a British philatelist and expert in the revenue stamps of Colombia. In 2009, with Dieter Bortfeldt, he published the first dedicated catalogue of Colombian revenue stamps.

Philately

Alan Anyon has been a Fellow of The Royal Philatelic Society London since 2009. Apart from The Royal, Anyon is a member of several other philatelic societies including the Revenue Society, the Cinderella Stamp Club and the Colombia-Panama Philatelic Study Group (COPAPHIL). His displays of provisional and revenue stamps of Colombia have received eight gold medals worldwide and he has written over seventy articles on those subjects. [1]

Outside philately

Now retired, Anyon was formerly a medical and chemical sales manager and served on the governing Council of the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) from 1995 until 2008. He was Deputy Treasurer of that society on two occasions. Anyon has been a member of his local branch of the RSPCA for almost 50 years. [1] [2]

The Roll of Distinguished Philatelists (RDP) is a philatelic award of international scale, created by the Philatelic Congress of Great Britain in 1921. The Roll consists of three pieces of parchment to which the signatories add their names.

Geoffrey Clive Akerman was an English philatelist. In 2001, Akerman and Gavin H. Fryer won the Crawford Medal from The Royal Philatelic Society London for their work "The Reform of the Post Office in the Victorian Era and Its Impact on Economic and Social Activity". He won numerous other awards for displays at stamp exhibitions. In 2009, Akerman won the Revenue Society Research Medal.

Gary Sidney Ryan (1916–2007) was an eminent philatelist who specialised in the stamps and postal history of Hungary and later in revenue stamps.

Postage stamps and postal history of Colombia

Colombia is a country in north-western South America. Colombia is bordered by Venezuela, Brazil, Ecuador, Peru, Panama and the Caribbean Sea and the Pacific Ocean. With a population of over 45 million people, Colombia has the second largest population in South America, after Brazil. The capital is Bogotá.

The Fiscal Philatelic Society was an early twentieth-century British philatelic society that is seen as a predecessor to today's The Revenue Society. The principal object of the society was the study of fiscal stamps, or, as they are more usually called today, revenue stamps.

A. B. Kay British stamp dealer

Alexander Berridge Kay was the founder, with E.J. Bridger, of the stamp dealers Bridger and Kay in 1897 or 1898 and a leading figure in the Fiscal Philatelic Society. In 1910, Kay identified used copies of the Italian forgery of the British grey-green Victorian 10 shilling stamp watermarked anchor and perforated 14. His letter to The London Philatelist, published in November 1910, warned the philatelic community of its existence.

H. E. Tester

Henry E. Tester was a Danish chemist and philatelist who, in 1982, with Sigurd Ringström, was awarded the Crawford Medal by the Royal Philatelic Society London for parts I and II of The private ship letter stamps of the world.

Dieter Bortfeldt

Dieter Bortfeldt FRPSL was a graphic designer and award-winning philatelist who was a specialist in the philately of Colombia. He designed the "Famous Colombians" and "Tourism" postage stamps of Colombia issued in 1993.

Adolf Passer Austrian philatelist

Adolf Passer FRPSL was an Austrian philatelist and authority on the stamps of Austria, Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Ottoman Empire and Turkey.
