Alan Gershenhorn

Alan Gershenhorn is an American businessman who was the Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer [1] [2] for United Parcel Service [3] from June 2014 to June 2018. [4] He joined the company in 1979 as a part-time package handler. He became a member of the UPS Management Committee in 2007 to serve as president of UPS International, where he was responsible for the UPS international package, freight forwarding, customs brokerage, and logistics businesses.

He became the company's first Chief Commercial Officer in 2014. In addition to his corporate responsibilities, Gershenhorn served as a Trustee of The UPS Foundation and a delegate of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development. [5] [6] [7] [8] In 2018, Gershenhorn joined 8VC as an advisor to the company. [9] He also has been on the Board of Directors for Beacon Roofing Supply since May 2015. [10]

Gershenhorn was born on Long Island, New York in 1958. [4] He graduated from the University of Houston in 1982, where he was a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon fraternity. [11]

Growing green concerns and advancement of green supply chain management concepts and practices make it all the more relevant. The number of publications on the topic of reverse logistics have increased significantly over the past two decades. The first use of the term "reverse logistics" in a publication was by James R. Stock in a White Paper titled "Reverse Logistics," published by the Council of Logistics Management in 1992. The concept was further refined in subsequent publications by Stock (1998) in another Council of Logistics Management book, titled Development and Implementation of Reverse Logistics Programs, and by Rogers and Tibben-Lembke (1999) in a book published by the Reverse Logistics Association titled Going Backwards: Reverse Logistics Trends and Practices. Normally, logistics deal with events that bring the product towards the customer. In the case of reverse logistics, the resource goes at least one step back in the supply chain. For instance, goods move from the customer to the distributor or to the manufacturer.
